@RightCoaster, I’ve been away from the game for a few years but when my D, a former Ivy T&F athlete, was going through the process, the transcript and test scores were enough for the pre-read and OV invite. When support for the LL was offered by coach after the OV she submitted the full ap.
One possibility is that during an open house event like you described, the coach may be inundated with potential prospects, many of whom are just kicking tires. Requiring the full ap may be coach’s way of gauging how serious the athlete is.
@varska it does seem weird, but the coach wanted scores and all that earlier in the year. He has met with us once before and then invited son to the Open House. It only had 15-20 kids boys and girls spread across all different events. So it wasn’t like a packed house, invite only. And they mentioned you wouldn’t have been invited unless they thought you could handle the workload and said everyone was a decent student. I assume they looked at most of the kids test scores and gpa beforehand.
Same thing as the other Ivy Open House. Same routine. There were even some of the same kids, lol!
I do agree that requiring the full app is a way for the coach to gauge true interest level. Before we left my son and I had a brief sit down with the coach and he expressed to the coach it was his number one choice. So I guess we are just in limbo for a bit until they figure things out. My son sent over a. thank you note and we’ll see what kind of response he gets.
@RightCoaster Yes, ultimately all you can do is ask for clarity and then assess what the coach says. Varska could be right. Seems like that program is putting itself at a disadvantage though. I don’t imagine many kids relish the thought of putting an app together ASAP, let alone can track down GCs and teachers on vacation for Recs. Not sure why they’d do that when other Ivies and P5 programs are trying to nail down OV dates with recruits now, no app needed. But again, if support was already offered then that’s a different story. (FWIW, you will know when the coach is offering admissions support; that part is usually very clear).
