Everything's submitted (except for the app!)...I'm just in the process of thinking about how to attack the Cornell supplemental essay asking the EXACT SAME QUESTION as the CommonApp. Oh goody.

Dearsiryes,

I've got a couple questions for you. You say that you have submitted everything except the application, but I thought the first thing you are supposed to submit is the application because without doing so they would not have made a folder for you? Also how are you handling the mid-term grade report, as you couldn't possibly have submitted it yet because the semester just started. Also, have you gotten your Dean's Report completed and submitted, if so, how did that go??

I have not submitted the application to Cornell yet but have confirmed that other materials have been received.

i havent done my app either lol...im too lazy and cornells question is jacked up!

Alright.

Wega,

I've sent off everything that I could possibly send off (excepting the Cornell Supplement and Mid-Year report). They DO have a folder for me which contains my SAT score report, first semester transcript, 2 prof recs, 1 employer rec, AP score report and Deans Report.

My Dean basically checked off I was in good academic standing, not in any disciplinary problems and marked me as top 1% or whatever that thing is on every category available.

I'll decide whether or not to pay the App fee and apply after I hear back from WashU in about 2.8ish weeks.

Ivy's: All, Cornell CALS being my top choice (prereq's done)
From: University of Arizona

If anyone had any input on my chances, I'd appreciate it.

I had a small disciplinary violation on my record (cited at party in first month of school) but I have a letter from Dean saying I'm in good standing and went above in getting it dismissed (see EC's). Still, I'm losing sleep over it because I really, really, dear god really want to leave the place I go to school now. (Do you think NYU CAS/JHU is a guaranteed backup?)

Some Harvard transfer applicants DO get interviews. However, not everyone does and if you get one, it doesn't mean you're in. If you don't get one, it doesn't mean you're not in either.

brand, who was that directed to

eklipze,

I have all prereqs and recommended courses done. I'm especially for one of the niche majors and have also taken a course leading to a nice prof rec (in addition to an ongoing research effort with a mentor hopefully leading to an eventual journal entry).

BTW, I don't think you can consider JHU a backup when it only has a 15% admit rate. NYU, maybe?

OK, maybe NYU. Do you have any idea about how Cornell would feel about a minor displinary issue like that? Because I was extremely confident about my chances before I found out that it wasn't expunged. Even though it's still a 50% acceptance rate at CALS. But still, I just wanted to jump off a cliff when I found out.

Um, I wouldn't really recommend calling. Your best bet is to address it in the essay.

What do you mean by calling? Do you mean calling Cornell and asking them how they feel about disciplinary issues? Obviously I would address it in the provided space, I was wondering what, if anything, you knew about how schools like Cornell disqualify applicants based on minor infractions outside of plagiarism or violence.

Also, what weight do they place on applying to 'niche' majors? Will applying as a biology major hurt me even though I have all of my prereq's done? Should I maybe try biogeochemistry, for which I also have the prerequisites done and is a much more niche major than neurobiology?

Well..you have to have some reason for wanting to apply to a certain major. It's pretty obvious to see an applicant for what he/she is considering adcoms have been at it for a while (generally).

If you write passionately about biology then it's the same as anything else, I guess. You just need to worry about conveying the sense that Cornell could provide you with something no other school could.

You, duh!

Um...actually no one. Just saying that chanchito has a really good shot coming from Columbia with good stats.
