You can feel however you want to feel, but I am just giving facts…and will give more numbers regarding non-ivy top schools when I can.

I don’t know what to make of it all. My D chose Penn because she liked the social scene there the most over other Ivies. Where’s the ranking for that?

I know students here at Penn who have gotten 1700, 1800, etc. They’re just as brilliant as the 2400s, or at least in the same level overall. SAT’s good because you don’t want 5000 colleges each giving their own tests, since that’d be a nightmare for the students and difficult to enforce (look at Japan and their cram schools, for example). Its a ruler…but that doesn’t mean its a good ruler.

aonoshoen:
Do Penn students actually sit around and discuss their SAT scores? IMHO, they’re already in so why not find other topics to discuss.

And…why does it matter? All of these schools have bright hardworking students. Once at the school, SAT scores are not discussed. It is not important to them.

Some people just want to feel superior.

Which will making friends very difficult on any campus.

Anybody can read test scores, so you posted them why? Jeez, so tired of threads that want to make test scores the end game for “elite” schools when that isn’t true. Next.

Anybody can indeed read test scores. But, as the OP above clearly indicates, not everybody has the ability to interpret them correctly.

This is all the making of the multiple threads about the “best” students at [Public Research University XYZ] being in the same league as their “counterparts” at HYPS. Here’s a cartoon to put things in perspective. Think Cornell Toad!

[The Frog and the Ox - YouTube](<a href=“- YouTube”>- YouTube)

LOL. Facts are facts!

How are test scores not important???/
It doesnt matter unless you reach certain extent (2200-2250), but one with terrible test score will never get admitted into top schools.

SAT scores are another way of showing one’s academic achievement along with GPA and course rigor.

Why? Well the OP’s posting history suggests he/she is a Cornell booster and thus might be motivated to post up any comparison in which Cornell comes out at or near the top and especially if it comes out ahead of HYPSM. That’s why.

what is the point of this thread

So you didn’t read the link which has the freshman class size… I will use chart to explain for your benefit.

Freshman class size Harvard ~1600, Penn ~2400, Cornell ~3200, about 2:3:4 (or 1:1.5:2)

=====|=====| Harvard
=====|=====|=====| Penn
=====|=====|=====|=====| Cornell

=====
The first 800 of them are about the same on SAT strength. If calculated the first 1600 just for these three u. their starting SATs are probably about the same which is the size of the whole freshman class of Harvard. Penn and Cornell are just bigger and can take more students.

If an applicant likes academically strong peers but even more diverse student body, he can choose a bigger school.

I don’t believe these numbers are correct.

[Admissions Statistics | MIT Admissions](Admissions statistics | MIT Admissions)

MIT has 1071 of admits scoring 750 or more in Math, over a thousand scoring over 700 in CR and over 1000 scoring over 700 in Writing. They only have 1000+ matriculating.

Are you sure about the math score for MIT (744.74)?? With a 25-75th percentile of 740-800, the top quarter has 800 scores so I would expect the average of the top 800 to be higher than 744.
