I don’t know how to link to posts, but my more detailed information is near the bottom of the page. http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/columbia-university/895975-official-columbia-university-rd-decisions-class-2014-a-2.html#post1064497039</a> Or, if you want to see a few of the different comments I made for Harvard, I’m two from the bottom here: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/harvard-university/894548-official-harvard-university-rd-decisions-class-2014-a-5.html</a> I’m also wordier and probably less clear. In my defense, I plead that it’s 3:30 a.m. and I cannot sleep! (My body clock is also a few time zones west.)

ADMISSION RESULTS (List only the Ivies, MIT, Stanford, UChicago, and other top schools):

 • ACCEPTED: Harvard, MIT, Yale, UChicago, Northwestern, Amherst
 • WAIT-LISTED: Stanford, Princeton, UPenn
 • REJECTED: None

LIKELY TO ATTEND: Between Harvard, MIT, Yale, and Stanford if I get off the waitlist.

KEY STATS:

 • SAT I: 2200
 • SAT II: II Math II: 790, Lit: 730, Chem: 730
 • Ethnicity/Gender: Caucasian/female
 • State or Country (if international) IL, but with dual citizenship (Poland)

ADMISSION RESULTS:

 • ACCEPTED: Princeton, Harvard, Columbia (college, not engineering)
 • WAIT-LISTED: MIT
 • REJECTED: UPenn (Arts and Sciences)

LIKELY TO ATTEND: Probably Princeton or Harvard, though I’ll definitely consider Columbia… this is such a tough decision! But one I’m lucky to have the opportunity to make =D

KEY STATS:

 • SAT I: M - 800, CR - 800, W - 770 (2370)
 • SAT II: Math II - 800, Physics - 800, Chem - 800
 • GPA: 4.6ish maybe? But GPA isn’t the most relevant measure in our school because it’s weighted unfairly against those involved in music
 • EC (scale of 1-5, 5 being most significant): 3-4? I’m not sure what this means, but I did a lot of music/science stuff in a fairly focused manner, so…
 • Ethnicity/Gender: Asian/F
 • State or Country (if international): East Coast

Comments: I HAVE NO IDEA HOW THIS HAPPENED! =D I feel honored and lucky to have fared so well in the admissions process! I cried when I logged onto Princeton and Harvard’s admitted students’ websites. There seems to be little rhyme or reason to this, but I hope everyone ends up happy! =)

One thing I noticed… This year, UPenn’s acceptance rate is significantly higher than other Ivies, in particular the three where I was accepted (more than double Harvard?!). And it was also the only school where I was rejected (and I applied to Arts and Sciences, not Wharton). Many of my friends who were accepted by more selective schools like Princeton, Harvard, Yale, MIT, etc. were also rejected or waitlisted by UPenn. I hate to say this, but it seems to me like UPenn may be trying to maximize yield? Don’t get me wrong, I was honestly GLAD to be rejected, since I wouldn’t have considered it over Columbia, Princeton, or Harvard, and the spot I would have taken is going immediately to someone who probably wants it more, rather than leaving some poor waitlistee anxious for months, but still… it seems weird.
