Hi,

I've got quite an unusual situation going for me. I'm currently a sophmore at Rutgers with around a 3.6 GPA and I'll have 52 completed credits by the end of this year. I'm also planning on majoring in Econ with a minor in Math. I'm looking to transfer as a recruit for Crew to an Ivy League institution (I'd rather not name which ones for fear any of the coaches might come across this posting). I've been in contact with the coaches who seem interested in me, but not soo interested in my SAT scores or Highschool Transcripts. In Highschool I had a 3.1 GPA and my SAT scores, which I only took once were a measely 1650 out of 2400. Reason for my low SAT scores were because I only needed to get an 1100 out of 1600 to have Drexel recruit me. So to be fairly honest I didn't take them too seriously nor did I bother too much with the essay or readings. I got into Drexel, but because they didn't award me enough money, and me coming from a low income family, I decided on attending Rutgers where they were very generous with their financial aid.

Now my question to you is, would it be possible for me to transfer into Columbia as a sophmore even though I am in my second year at Rutgers? Meaning, would I be able to get on the 5 year plan (2 years at the Rut and 3 elsewhere) so I could make the most of my education, and rowing at whatever school I choose? My second question is, should I retake the SAT? I'm quite confident I could perfect score the math section, and get a much more reasonable score, but I was warned that I shouldn't retake it. The SAT's are supposed to be an indicator for how well you'll manage in college and if you're already doing well and end up not doing as well as you'd have hoped on the retake of the SAT, welll, it would only reflect negatively against you. Would most of you agree with this?

Many thanks.
