The majority of families cannot pay $270,000 for an undergraduate education. Besides that, elite OOS publics are generally not very generous with their merit scholarships.
@rtristan07 What majors are you considering? That will have a significant impact on how much difference between an Ivy and a top state U.

That’s why I specifically said UCs. They are not generous for kids with high academics. Merit scholarships are few and far between.
Agree with twogirls, many of the best state schools are need blind and meet need as do the Ivy plus schools and many other privates.
But “meeting need” (however that is defined, since the schools define “need”) at state universities may be limited to in-state residents.
UVA and UNC meet full need for all students. Not sure about the others.
