I just received the email also. It is good news! Some people who send in applications do not meet all of the eligibility requirements e.g. test scores too low, essays off-topic, not sending in official test scores.

I got it too! I’m so excited, out of the 25+ scholarships I applied for, I’ve only received 2 so far! Does this mean they will schedule an interview with us? Also, does this scholarship take financial need into concern?

No, the email doesn’t guarantee you an interview. Semi-finalists should be announced soon in early May and they will be offered interviews. I guess the April 30th date was truly just an application status update, not an advancement notification…
So if will the semi-finalists pay for their transportation when going to this interviews (out of pocket) or will the Jackie Robinson Foundation pay for the semi-finalists’ transportation?
They sent out the same email last year and it seems that no one that received the email was ever contacted for an interview. The semifinalists reported being notified prior to April 30th that they had been selected for an interview. I can’t be certain, but I would temper your expectations…
I got the email, but I was also called yesterday and notified that I was a semi finalist. About 4,000 people applied, and about 140 advance to interviews. Yesterday on the phone I was informed that in Florida (where I live) only 17 semifinalists were chosen. Interviews are in two weeks.
So are all the semifinalists notified then? I think everyone who’s application was legitimate got the email but I wish I knew more.
I emailed them to ask what the email meant and if semi-finalist notifications had all been sent out, but no response so far.

@arob1129 No, not a semifinalist. Semifinalists are contacted for an interview. Everyone that applied got the same email, just like last year and no one last year ended up getting an interview call after April 30th.
So if we haven’t gotten a phone call yet…we’re not semifinalists?
