Is anyone doing the Jackie Robinson scholarship?

I'm surprised I haven't seen any threads about it this year. How competitive is its selection process?

I’m doing it. It’s very selective. On the website it says a little over 3000 apply. And looking at the list of winners, it seems as though they pick about 50 people to receive the scholarship.

Does anyone know if it’s mostly just African Americans who get this scholarship? I’m a minority, but not AA, so I don’t want my efforts to be fruitless.
Good luck to everyone!

Here are some pictures.

Why aren’t there more applicants? I thought this was a pretty well known scholarship. But eh, not complaining.

Hey I have a question what about if your school does not give + or - grades but only solid A’s and B’s. Should I put A+ if I got an A in a class or should I put A.

@collegebounder2: Hmm…now that you bring that up, I’m wondering the same thing. It does seem as if a majority of the scholars are AA! Oh well, I submitted my application–hoping for the best!

Good luck everyone!

@nz2011 I think applicants are relatively few because the application itself is pretty extensive, especially with the essays (four 500 word essays: Leadership, Community Service, Current Issues, and Personal). Imo

I agree with BRazor92
With 30 to 60 winners and not all the top prize amount and the tendency for AA we chose to skip this in favor of doing 4 others (work equivalent) and am sure others are doing the same…

Well it seems like more AA people get it. I totally forgot about this until a few days ago and I didn’t want to go through the effort of the extensive application, so I didn’t apply anyways. I suppose I could’ve reused essays but eh. There are many more local scholarships to do that would have less people applying. $500 and 1 or 2 thousand really add up!

I just used my essays from gates and changed them around anybody know when the winners will be notified?

wow i wish i had saw this thread 3 days ago :(

I was going to do it, but its for minorities only.

has anyone made it to the semi finalist round?

I just got an email that I advanced to the second round!

I also just got an e-mail saying has advanced to the second round of review!! How many advance to the 2nd round usually?

Advanced to the second round as well!

Me three!!! How many rounds are there?

Yes I advanced to the second round as well. I wonder how many people got weeded out.

I am also wondering the same thing! If around 3,000 apply each year I think. Does it make sense that about 500 would advance to the 2nd round?
