For semi-finalists who’ve had their interviews… did anyone receive an email today asking semi-finalists to verify their scholarship information?
Hey guys, I would like to add that I’m a JRF semi-finalist and my interview isnt until May 30th and they’re supposed to announce winners on the 15th. @hallowdreams about two weeks ago,I received an email asking to verify info and then a day or so later was notified about my semi-finalist status. And thanks for the interview info. If anyone has more, that’d be great.
@hallowdreams I emailed the JRF asking what role other financial aid/scholarships play in their award process and I received a reply stating that although only Gates winners are automatically disqualified, the amount of other aid already received IS a determining factor. It seems that they are trying to verify that you have sufficient unmet need to be able to use their scholarship.
Don’t give up hope yet. I was told that our region is still going through applications @nmackpaddywhack
Good luck to the rest of you! I hope that all of you end up being semi finalists. @ProudMomx3 I didn’t qualify for Gates but that makes sense! I was worried about the one scholarship I did receive from my university… It’s a bit of money but I still have some money on the table that the JRF WOULD help with… not to mention that the scholarship I received doesn’t really include a direct mentoring piece? Oh well, I should know in about a week so fingers crossed. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you @SweetiePie97 for the update!(:
I’m new here and also applied to JRF. I’m from North Texas and haven’t heard anything back other than the first email. Where are you guys from?
Pennsylvania!
Happy interview day for many of you! Mine isn’t until tomorrow, but for those of you who have yours today, good luck! Can anyone do me the favor of verifying if they did or didn’t ask you about current events? Because that part made me nervous when I read it in the previous post that outlined what the interview would most likely be like. Thanks!
@FutureSurgeon97 The scholars that I spoke to expressed that they were asked questions about current events. I wasn’t asked any questions regarding that (for reasons explained in my previous post). I WAS well prepared to answer questions on a variety of “current events” (domestic and international) however. I would expect to be asked a question or two on current events but honesty is the best policy. If you really don’t have much of an idea about what to say don’t bluff your way through it. Every interview is different… Try not to stress! Be yourself*.
*The best piece of advice I received my from my Dad and from the scholars. Don’t try to project any other image of yourself except the one that exists now, haha.
Two of my questions they asked, I told them I wasn’t sure how to answer. facepalm I felt so stupid
My interviewers did not ask me anything about current events. I think I messed up my interview because I was so nervous.
@Tee1234 @mel159 Its okay. I came up with a couple of dumb answers. And now I can think of really good answers that I should have given. sigh At least we only have to wait another 2 weeks.
I was looking at the thread from 2014 and some people were notified June 2nd. So I’m assuming that some decisions are coming out this week.
So… I don’t think they liked the fact that I’m getting a full ride from my school… but I hope I still get it bc I’m more into the perks of the foundation, not just the money
@futuresurgeon97 When you say full ride do you just mean tuition or are you referring to a full ride that handles housing too?
And I feel for you! I don’t have a full ride exactly but I’m fretting over whether or not they’ll gawk at my aid letter.
Anyone hear anything from ucla or at all
@bbruinbound97 Nope! (Speaking as a UCLA semi-finalist).
@hallowdreams all of it. Housing included. All I’m responsible for is about $2,000, and they offered me a work study to cover it.
But i just wanna be apart of this foundation so bad
@FutureSurgeon97 Well, you never know!
