Jackson Laboratory SSP 2020

Did any seniors or college students receive a rejection letter yet?

from the site:

applicants must:
“have completed Grade 11* or Grade 12”
“* in 2020, high school seniors will receive admissions preference for high school fellowships in the SSP. In 2021 and beyond, high school fellowships will be restricted to seniors.”

haven’t gotten my letter yet, so we’ll stay positive! we can’t control the decision at this point, and worrying will only hurt us more. we will be where we are meant to be this summer; i believe in us!!

At this point, we have 9 more days left and since most of us who are waiting are juniors, it does not look too good for us. I also just read last year’s thread and most people got a rejection letter towards the end of the month, but some mentioned that you might be in the top tier if you are not rejected until the last day ( I don’t know if that is true or not).

Okay so I’ve been following the thread since the beginning but have stayed silent til now. I have a question, I’m a senior and applied this year and Michael Mckernan sent me an email earlier March 7th about converting my letters of rec from .dox to .pdf. But I haven’t heard anything ever since. Wouldn’t they have sent me a rejection letter soon after they opened my application early March? What’s the hold up? Am I top tier or just a last rejection they forgot to email out?

To the people accepted, how soon do you think we might hear about the internship being affected by COVID? I know that some other programs have already sent out some updates, last week NIH cancelled their program for this summer, and some other programs have pushed their start date a week back. Fingers crossed because I’m super excited about this, I’m thinking about sending an email to Mr. McKernan in the next week or so if we don’t hear anything…

@crunchybagels hope they push the start date back a bit. Btw you know any programs that have decided to do the same? :frowning:

@TheKops one of the programs I applied to said they are re-evaluating how many people to accept and may push the dates back a bit.

@crunchybagels I think they will send out more information beginning of April once they have accepted everyone. I am also dying to know.

@TheKops I know the University of Pennsylvania is pushing their programs’ start dates back, maybe other schools in areas hit very hard by COVID will be doing the same soon

what email did you receive the rejection from (asking for a friend)

I’m a senior and still haven’t received an acceptance or rejection. They did this last year too where they sent an initial wave of rejections and then waited to send out the rest until the last couple days. It seems like most (or all) acceptances are sent out early in the month.

@4729562 If that is the case, I guess no junior is getting accepted this year :frowning:

I don’t think that is necessarily true. A few people have been accepted at the end of the month in previous years; however, I don’t think juniors have much hope of getting accepted this year.

Maybe I’ll have better luck as a college student. Third time’s the charm lol

@4729562 You got this! I am rooting for you

@4729562 don’t lose hope yet! I’m rooting for all of us !!

Do any juniors want to be friends? We can help each other with next year’s summer program applications, SAT, SAT subject tests, etc…Also, do you guys think the college application cycle will slightly be different for us because of COVID-19?

@jfhdjhfdyhnfn Sure, that sounds cool! Do you have Snapchat or anything?
I think college admissions will be different. Case western has already said they will exclude SAT/ACT scores next year.

I do have Snapchat, but I don’t usually use it, however, I am often on Instagram and we can create a group chat on Instagram along with anyone who wants to join. My Instagram is @kalkida_n

How many highschool seniors were already sent acceptances?
