Hello all! So I know it's a bit early but I was looking into the housing at Cornell now that I'm in. I'm a music major and wanted know what Cornellians had to say about these two halls.

the people I know who’ve lived in Risley really loved it.

My son lives in Risley and loves it. He will live there again next year and possibly all four years. He particularly enjoys the added perk of having a dining hall in the building. Can you visit and get a taste of both program houses? If you have specific questions, message me and I will ask him. He is home for spring break. I find that he does the vast majority of his socializing with other Risleyites. One of the girls next door to him is a high school friend who graduated the year ahead of him. She had not requested Risley but was placed there with her roommate for sophomore year. They like it so much that they are staying again next year. It is a diverse crowd.

My son lives in JAM. He likes it and has made many friends. He is not a music major, but plays classical piano and is an audiophile. He has met many like-minded friends, male and female, at JAM. They do frequent musical events together, among other activities. Dining is convenient and is the same as for most of the freshman dorms on North Campus. They do have practice rooms, recording studio, grand piano, etc. But the building itself is not grand. However, my son’s single room is larger than the one he had in Mews his freshman year. The rooms are arranged in suites. There are kitchen facilities, lounge, etc. The lounge/TV room is not as nice as the one at Mews. However, my son is moving into an apartment with five other JAM friends next year. There are several bands in JAM, and some of the other music lovers from elsewhere on campus hang out there as well.

Thanks for your responses! Is it true that Risley only has co-ed bathrooms/showers?
