@TheEpic2401Man for preventing silly mistakes, i dont know what to say other than just really be careful when youre typing on your calculator. practice should help with this, and on practice tests when you make silly mistakes, dont just brush them off and think “oh on the real test i wouldnt do that.” go over where and what caused you to make that mistake, so you will be more conscious next time you do a similar problem. i took my last practice test the monday before the test
i got an 800 on CR, i had time to spare on 2/3 of the reading sections.
@Tookme10mins Thank you, your words make me feel so much better. Actually I was not that angry- it was just my instant reaction when I heard the news. Best luck with your college app:-)
@TheEpic2401Man I finished the math sections so fast that I was able to triple and quadruple check each question. Make sure your work is neat and organized and you should be fine.
i somehow ended up with 690W, even though it’s usually my strongest subject (consistent 800s on practice tests). Score report says my essay was an 8 (understandable) but I missed three multiple choice which translates to a 71/80. On the December test, one multiple choice missed = 78/80. Is this discrepancy because of the curve of the test? How many did you all miss/ what number did did you receive out of 80?
The same thing happened to my son on the writing section. He received the same scores as you did, with 3 wrong on the multiple choice and an 8 on the essay turning into a 690 on the writing. It seems like the curve was pretty harsh, although I found some reports of it being equally harsh on some older SAT dates, but clearly not all. He got 780 CR and 770 M. He also got a perfect 1520 on the new PSAT this fall, and has taken an essay writing class for gifted high school kids at our state flagship where he received an A. Last summer he took a regular 200 level course at the flagship that would count as having completed the university writing requirements if he matriculated there and received an A. So a 690 on the SAT writing just feels wrong.
If anyone has more insight into the grading of the SAT essay, I’d love to hear it, although the point is moot as the new SAT essay will be entirely different. Thanks.
@TrudiRexar From what I have heard, the essay graders at the SAT work in sweat shop like conditions. They must meet quotas of about 60 essays in an hour. Therefore, I highly doubt the readers read every word but grade you based on their impressions of the writing. I personally got an 800 on the writing section (full score multiple choice 10 on the essay) and felt that it was a relatively easy writing section compared to prior tests. However, I may add that I am not a great writer. Much of the scores that the collegeboard provides are rigged and we must live with that. I recommend for your son to take the new sat for he seems ready for it.
I am taking the rescheduled ones Saturday! any tips?
Background: I started with a 1550 score on my October and after some practice I am averaging around 2000, but I want to push it to a 2100, but its just my reading score that is dragging my score down. I usually get 750 in math 700-730 in writing and 560 in reading. What do you guys think that would help me improve my overall, especially my reading score?
Hey guys, from what I’ve heard, your test was recycled. As my test was postponed, that doesn’t directly affect me, but, I was wondering if your curve was recycled as well? From what I’ve heard, the original curve for our test seems to be brutal (-2 math=740 and -3 CR=750) but I’ve also heard that a lot of frequent 800 scorers took it the first time around. Will CB make a curve based on how people do this time or will they use the curve from the previous administration of the test?
