January 23rd Sat - HARSH WRITING SECTION

Congrats to everyone who got their ideal scores in the latest SAT!

I am quite gutted because my writing score is significantly lower ( around 120 points lower) than anything I have ever got in any SAT practice test and the Dec 2015 test.

Did anyone else find that the grading for the writing section seemed especially harsh? Whilst I don’t want to appear to be making excuses (clearly I dropped the ball in the writing section) I am interested to hear what you guys think.

Thanks- and good luck to those who haven’t checked!!

I got a 10 on the essay the first 2 times I took the test, and this time I only got an 8 :/. I felt like the grading was harder this time. The 8 cost me a perfect on the SAT, so I’m kind of bitter, but we can’t do anything about it because that part of the test is so subjective. I got a perfect on the writing MC part though.

I got a 750 on the October sitting (76 MC with one wrong and a 9 essay) and a 790 on the January sitting (78 MC with one wrong I suppose? and a 10 essay). Honestly I’ve always abhorred the SAT essay and really, a good amount of the grading seems like luck to me.

I felt the same about the scoring of the writing section. I did okay on the critical reading and math sections but writing did hit me hard. It dragged down my overall score. :frowning:

Strangely enough I did a lot worse on the December SAT, but I got a 790 on this SAT, probably because of more preparation though

same! I got a really good score(1 wrong) in writing in December but was trying to improve my CR (which I did). I didn’t find writing hard at all this time and thought maybe one wrong, But I scored a whole 60 points lower which is very surprising to me.

Asked a question, found the answer.

Congrats to all of you who did so well!

I actually got an 800 on the writing, and I have never done that good before on the actual test. Maybe the scaling was harsher for this test though if you got some wrong.

I’m happy with my score but I’m bitter too. A 770 in writing cost me a perfect score, and I got a -2 on MC with a 10 essay. It’s especially frustrating because I think I know which 2 I got wrong, and I literally changed those two answers from the correct ones, and that cost me a perfect score. Oh well, I’m still super happy though!
