hey lizzy, I'm looking at Foxcroft, Oldfields, and Garrison Forest. Also checked out Madiera, Linden, Grier, and Chatam. What about you?

I got really lopsided scores:

Verbal: 90%

Math: 38%

Reading: 82%

Do you think the top schools accept students with these scores?
Thank you so much. and congratulations to all of you for your great scores!

hank93, what do you like the most out of all those schools???

OMG I DID BETTER TOO!
I RAISED MY SCORE FROM A 91 TO A 97~
WOOT
do you think i have a chance now? because my grades are mediocre-ish...

Thanks crosscountry12 and crickett! There are still people who did better than me..

Great job lalalove94!

Alex1945--Honestly, I do not think a school like Phillips Exeter would like to see those scores on the SSAT. What schools are you applying to?

Don't you all just wish it was March 10th already?? When my sister applied for boarding schools five years ago, she told me that she didn't want to go to school the day the decisions came. Maybe I should do what my sister failed to do. :D haha

Ughh I am looking forward to AND dreading March 10th.
You should all know what I mean~
:)

Thanks Geokid! You did very well too!
Everyone did great~
I'll keep my fingers crossed for all of us!

I just hope that everyone gets into their first choice school, and the worst scenario, their second :D. I'm hoping for threads and threads of "ACCEPTED!!" on that Monday. Wouldn't it be funny if you move into your dorm and you log into CC through your laptop, and your roommate goes "THAT WAS YOU?"?

Hahahah that would be pretty cool!

I am hoping everyone gets into atleast one of their schools; I heard admissions got a lot more selective~

I am sure you will all do great :]

it went down from last year, by a lot

verbal= 73
math= 69
reading= 95
overall= 84

I understand the math, but not the verbal. this is coming from the one who never has to study too much for vocab quizzes because I already know all the words. And for this one I actually did study, 200 index cards worth of studying

and since my interviewer might as well had told my parents that I wasn't getting in based on last year's interview

If the interviewer is truly saying that your interview from last year will keep you out, then good riddance. Who wants to be at a school where there's a presumption that students don't grow or improve over the course of a year? I'm sure that you had your heart set on this school and may have fantasized about it, but this should be a wake up call that it's not the match made in heaven you might have thought it was. It's not the school you imagined. Maybe another school on your list is actually more like the school you were imagining, just as this school seems to fall short of that ideal.

Exactly right D-M! (as usual)

R & C: it is really hard for me to believe that someone associated with an educational institution would entertain the idea that a 13 or 14 year old person might not change and grow over the course of a year. It actually borders on the absurd! But if it's really true that this is what the interviewer told your parents, then I think D-M is absolutely right, you might want to look elsewhere for that "fit", and, quite frankly, that school doesn't deserve you!

Also, everyone posting here (or lurking and not posting) should remember that SSAT scores are really not the "be all, end all" of prep school admissions. With the glaring exception of the school R&C has been talking to, prep schools look at the whole picture, and while all those who did exceptionally well on the SSATs should be very proud of their efforts and results, it really is only one part of that picture.

Anyway, I am glad that most of you guys are happy with your scores.

And for those who are not, as long as you put your best foot forward, :D

good job!

i just got my email!!
OMG! i am so damn happy!! i didnt study much and the only kind that i did do (the flashcards with the many many vocabulary words on it) didnt even help so when i was taking the exam i was like **** what am i supposed to do with the huuuge words??

buuuut i got my scores and:

Upper Level Score Range : 500-800

Verbal Score 731
(Personal Score Range: 710 - 752, SSAT Percentile 89%)

Math Score 770
(Personal Score Range: 749 - 791, SSAT Percentile 95%)

Reading Score 722
(Personal Score Range: 701 - 743, SSAT Percentile 93%)

Total Score 2223
(Personal Score Range: NA, SSAT Percentile 95%)

good job to everyone else who got their score and was happy with it! =)

thanks smile and d'yer maker

I am pretty dissappointed with all of this, but at least I'm coming from a great school (in terms of private day) so if it doesn't work out the situation isn't terrible

the thing is that as much as I want to go I feel bad for the kids that want it even more and don't get it. I know a guy who has a really bad home situation and applied to 2 schools last year and got rejected at one and waitlisted at another. he needed it a lot more than I do, so the slim chance I do get in I'm still going to feel bad about it

and I figure admissions decides anyway whether I go or not, so I should stop thinking about sophomore year and just focus on my current studies

Exactly. That's wisdom.

Congratulations to all of you who scored well on the test. For some of you the new results will help with admissions. I am wondering a little bit about what is going on though. Maybe it is just the people who feel gleeful are posting and the more disappointed ones are keeping it to themselves. Did anyone re-test in January and do worse or the same?

I see that EVERY one of the re-testers who posted did SIGNIFICANTLY better on this Jan test than on earlier ones this year. One kid who had been 91/92 on 3 prior tests got a 99. Everyone went up at least 7 % points overall. For those who gave the breakdown, not a single person went down in any section and this is among testers whose earlier scores were good. Usually when the scores are high you would expect to see a section down here and there. That is why some schools say they look at the highest score in each section.

So, is it just the people who are talking or do people think this was this an easier test making it easier to get a higher score in relation to the past 3 years? I also know a boy and a girl who saw large gains last January, both on 3rd try.

I've been thinking about it as well and asked my son if the kids who took it in January at his school said anything about scores and they had not. But, since it's a 3 year average...maybe the scores that dropped off (January - 3 years ago) were REALLY good?
But then one poster here did post the raw score AND the % (most only listed the %) and the raw score went up as well so that's probably not the case.

Another thought is that you are also competing against yourself...you took the test as an 8th grade girl for example in October, November and December. So any slight improvement, even one more question correct should increase your % a little right? You just did better than 3 other test takers in your demographic (even if it was one person - you!).

I thought the January test was just as difficult as the December one. I honestly though that I did about the same or slightly worse in January. When my interviewer told me my scores I was shocked. It's a three year average so I doubt one month would make such a huge difference.

I don't know, it seems odd that pretty much everyone did significantly better. Several kids at my son's school did 15+ points better too. I understand it is a 3 year average, it is just very strange.

My son increased his total score by 20%
Basically he prepared this time instead of going in cold
He thought the test was the same in terms of difficulty
