Japanese

Would majoring in like Japanese, per se for example be a major viewed as different and unique?

It will be viewed as unusual, but not unique; there are a few other Japanese majors out there.

As a fluent speaker of the language, I've found that it gets a few "oohs" and "ahhs," followed by "why?" and then "why not Mandarin?"

Most law schools aren't going to expect you to really put a lot of Japanese to use in the Federal Circuit Courts, so I wouldn't really expect much from it.

It's fun though!

If you work for a corporation (such as the one I work for) that does a lot of business in Japan, fluency in Japanese is a plum to have on your resume. But I wouldn't study Japanese just to impress an admissions committee.
