hi jas0n, i loved your thread and i learned alot but there's one topic that i havnt seen anywhere on here. now this is a totally serious question.

how would a gay person fit in irvine? i mean is there a gay community anywhere in irvine? do people in the dorms bash on gay people, etc? i think if i go there i might feel out of place living with guys and they might do bad things to me in my sleep. do you have much experience with gay people? i think it might be okay for girls but what about guys?

coupon- I have a good friend who is openly gay at UCI. He gets along just fine here. We have a solid GLBT community and center with resources for gays. I'm not sure how it would be received in the dorms to tell you the truth...but most people seem to have some sense of open-mindedness; I doubt it'll be a major problem.

I have a suitemate that is also gay. He is by far one of the most open and outgoing person, haha. He?s a community programmer here at Mesa Court and he?s really social. I swear everyone knows the guy. For the most part, the gay guys I?ve seen have been overly outgoing. It?s going to be your luck when it comes to what type of dorm environment you land in. For my dorm, there is opposition to gays, but most of us love that person in our dorm. He?s awesome :]. Just be aware of your dorm environment. But for the campus in general, you won?t feel out of place at all. In fact, a lot of people have just opened up upon going to college via sexuality programs held on campus.

I came to UCI because I didn?t have much choice to choose from. I can?t really say why someone would choose this university over others. It?s too general, sorry.

Talk to counselors and get a petition going to change your major. As an undeclared major, they will be more than happy to help you declare a major.

Actually the UCI medical center is located in Anaheim somewhere. It's not that close to campus. You can definitely get a volunteering position there. THere are also other hospitals like the Children's Hospital of Orange County (CHOC). You'll be fine, it's the OC. There are plenty of places to be =].

Is it tough to fit in a minor? I'm going to UCI next year as a freshman and my declared major is CSE, but I was looking a Digital Arts minor in Claire Trevor school of arts. Is it tough to balance a double schedule? Major and Minor?

I'm interested in media arts, photoshop etc..

Physics 7A=kinematics
7B=thermodynamics and rotational kinematics
7D=field forces.

The LD's are all the lab counterparts. Physics lab for the 7 series here is more of a tutorial to help you better understand the concepts of physics. It's not exactly a form of lab. I recommend you check the course catalogue for more information.

Just to let you know I PMed you. CSE is quite a bit of work like every engineering major. Informatics is not as much but it is still difficult. As an EE major I have found it extremely difficult to add in a minor along with taking a new language for my benefit. I wanted to minor in anthropology but that's not going to happen anymore =. However, if you are really looking into Digital Arts, I would recommend it. You can definitely fit it in your schedule but anticipate a fifth year or summer sessions. It's a pretty tough schedule.

Hi Jason; so it seems that the Explore UC Irvine event next week on Saturday has been filled up and I was just wondering if there was still a way I could get into the day's events and programs even if I haven't RSVPed? Is there a booth for those who haven't and would like to?

We went on Wednesday, and I think my son checked in at a table, but there are so many people, you could probably just walk in. In fact, there was a session where they broke us into academic departments, and when we got to the Engineering presentation, they only had one person to check everyone in. There were so many people, they decided to just let everyone in the lecture hall which then was a problem because there weren't enough seats. So they ended up giving the presentation twice. (The engineering presentation was something that you were supposed to RSVP to as well. But a lot of people just showed up. After the presentation, my son checked his name off the RSVP list, and he noticed that some of his friends' names were not on the list, so obviously people crashed the presentation.)

if I go for double major in computer science and statistics, wud I face any problems in terms of academic criteria.
b/c I heard if more than 1 courses overlap in two majors....you cant double major in those specific fields.

Double majoring can be sometimes tricky because the school likes to prevent you from double majoring by making you graduate if you already fulfilled the requirements for one major. The best thing to do, however, is find two majors that overlap one another to get that double major. Then, you need to plan it out so you proceed through each major equally where you finish both at the same time. The counselors will easily help you with that planning.

jason,
i was thinking of a joining a pre-law frat when i enter next year , however i am assuming they won't be " party ones". what's your take on frats at uci?

I heard people can buy roundtrip plane tickets for under 100 dollars. I checked Southwest and American Airline and they were both around $120~. Are there some kind of special deal?

Haha thanks blinkblink. Go UCI =]. You're in Cascada right? I can see Cascada through my window from Barranca.

Mysticorion:

If you buy your tickets early enough they will offer it for $49 each way which equals $98 round trip. However, you have all those other fees that will bring it to around $120.
