UCSD or UCI?

I'm not trying to boast about my acceptance, so please try not to hate me.

I got into both UCSD and UCI but I really do not know which one to choose. I'm looking for a lot of things in a college and I really want your opinions/facts about both of these campuses. I'm looking for the following things from the two colleges, I was wondering if someone could tell me about the following from each.

1) I applied under Chemical Engineer for both campuses, though I might switch to mechanical, still not sure. Nonetheless, I'm going to be an engineer. How is the engineering program at both colleges?

2) How is the campus? I probably will find out myself, but there's a slight chance that I won't be able to travel to San Diego. Is it really beautiful? big?

3) Are there cute asian girls? This may seem like a silly question, but I'm serious. I have a thing for Korean girls lol.... but anyways, I'm really looking to be more social in college and find a nice girl.

So anyways, please make some constructive replies to each and please keep flaming to a minimum. Thanks ^.^

i can only answer # 2 lol but san diego has a HUGE campus!!
irvine is small to average. Most parts of the campus are centered around aldrich park so its hard to get lost.

All I know is San Diego has an awesome zoo, if that helps. Both are beautiful areas, great weather. I know Irvine is building a lot more buildings, and I think the ones for your major are new or going to be newer.

And race-wise, I hear that Irvine is 50% Asian

I think UCI has a larger Korean population. Don't quote me on that though.

Heh of course..that's why UCI is dubbed "University of Chinese Immigrants"

UCI does have the most asians of all the UCs.

1) Both have excellent engineering departments. You have to study A LOT. In terms of difficulty and quality of instruction, they're about the same.
2) UCI campus is beautiful. Aldrich park has lots of trees and has a naturey feel to it. I haven't been to SD, but from what i've heard the buildings are kinda ugly.
3) I'm a korean girl! All UCs have a big asian population, but Irvine has cuter girls that SD.

As you can see, I'm kinda biased toward UCI. In the end it's your choice.

Ah yes. UCSD is infamous for the "Triton Eye".
That is, your standards of the opposite sex are lowered after living there and being exposed to the people there.

Truth is that most kids I talk that go to UCSD generally confirm the stereotypes that plague the campus, lack of social life, cut throat competition, less than attractive populace. Most I've talked to dislike the place, or like it because they're weird. (they even admit it)

When I hear about UCI from its students on the other hand, I generally get the impression that the stereotypes that haunt that campus are generally either exaggerated or untrue.

the engineering program is going to be tough wherever you go - its just the nature of the major. its one of the toughest majors here, for sure. but i hear you get a lot of undergrad opportunities, especially under UROP, then at most other schools

Hey maelstrom99

1)I've been in engineering for almost 2 years now, and I've been around engineers all my life. In all honesty, at the undergraduate level, it usually doesn't matter where you attend. I could continue explaining why, but I'm too lazy =P. However, if you're thinking about entering the field of research, you should take a look at what emphases UCI and UCSD have to help you match better with each school. Be careful though. You're interests now may not be your interests later.

2)UC Irvine is about 1400 acres and UCSD is about 1900 acres. UCSD built its campus in a very widespread manner while UCI concentrated all the academic buildings in a smaller area. This is why UCSD seems 10x larger than UCI. Just a heads up =P. I really like UCSD buildings though. Their tall and more modern looking. UCI has all these brutalistic buildings. It kills me sometimes, but I still love my campus to death. Overall they are both enjoyable to be at =]. UCSD could be too spread out sometimes though...

my friend told me the UCSD campus isnt to nice and it's right by the I5 cuz he went there to visit. i'm not too sure if its actually next o the I5 cuz i didnt go there.

i went to uc irvine and it's really nice. not too big and not too small i think its a pretty good size. the campus is clean and i heard its super safe. so if u want safety and clean i'd say go to UC irvine. & yes there's prob lotsa cute korean girls there since its mostly azns.

I live about 10 minutes away from the campus, and yes it is very clean and very safe: Irvine was rated the safest city in the U.S. by the FBI's 2007 crime study. From what I've heard from teachers and my professor grandfather, it also seems that UCI is on the upswing academically speaking.
