some freshman majoring in biological sciences have to take a chemistry and some have to precalculus placement tests. are they hard and how should i study for them (can i use sat 2 books to study for them?)

i heard the placement tests are a joke

b.c they are easy?

for bio major..

I have to take chem, precalc or math anal, Academic English/ESL, and UC Analytical Writing+++

@#%# too many placement tests..

ShoeFactory and Buddy:

you have kind of heard right about the placement tests...they are kinda simple, but they make sure that you know what you need to, so that you are ready for the class that you are taking. They are easy if you go into the test calm, collected, and have a basic knowledge of the material you are being tested on.

gaia87:

you may not have to take some of those placement tests if your grades in certain classes omits you, or if you are taking certain classes that pass you right out the placement test. for example if you are taking AP Calc, then you can pass right out of the math placement test, and if you are taking AP chem, then you dont have to take the placement test for chem. now you may have to pass the AP test for these subjects, but sufficient grades may also help you allow you to bypass some of these placement tests...the writing one just about everyone has to take it no matter what, unless you have something like a 750 or 730 on your writing SAT I score.

i knew alot of people who didn't take the writing placement test seriously and consequently failed it. it's not difficult because you have so much time its ridiculous, but don't think that a really crappy essay is going to get a passing score. give a good effort.

i believe it was 680 in sat writing or a 3 on an english AP test to be exempt out of placement writing.

if you fail the writing test how do you maek it up other than taking the ap?

buddy:

You start at a lower writing level. You'll be taking Writing 39A which is an introductory course in writing.

to everyone inquiring about placement tests:

Go to this website and click your respective tests. Everything you need to know is listed. When they say these subjects are covered in the exam, they really mean that those subjects and only those subjects will be covered. As for the chem test, it covered everything but at a surface level so I was able to breeze through that. I recommend studying SAT books on your respective subjects if you already have them.

Is it hard to get involved at UCI, I mean like joining clubs and stuff if you're a commuter? People said you might get lazy driving back and forth for club meetings

sweetdream:

If you commute, you can already think about it and see what would happen. There is a high probability you will be lazy to drive all the time. I've actually met a deal of commuters through my hallmates that bring their club friends back.

hey jason, i have to take the AWPE and i was just wondering if there were any practice questions online where i could practice and also, what if i don't pass, what exactly happens?

also, i don't know if i have to take the math placement test, do you know anything about it. also, is the math palcement test also $65 cuz that's insane. wat are the exemptions for the math placement tests?

thanks

concerned.

oh by the way, wat year is this for u at UCI? wat's ur major?

I never took the AWPE because I was exempt with a community college course. I'm a freshman in electrical engineering.

no, concerned707 you don't have to pay for math only writing exam

Hey jas0n, I was wondering about the 2nd semester senior grades.

I have a suspicion that I'm gonna get a 2.8, 3.0 if I'm lucky. Will having one C instead of B reverse my admission?

I'm pretty sure it's your cumulative senior year GPA so if you had over a 3.0 semester you should be fine.

dirtysocks:

Read above. Remember, it's weighted. Cs do not threaten disqualification immediately but getting under 3.0 does.

If you have a D in an important class like calculus, does it DEFINITELY reverse your decision? or just possibly?
