yea, it's called welcome week. You can move in a week earlier, and you'll get a chance to get used to the campus and find your class. That week is also filled with fun events and activites like club carnivals, BBQ at aldrich park, concert, comedy show, dance show, late night at the night arc, foam party. It's basically the best week of the year

well i already asked this question on another thread.. but it doesnt seem like its going to get an answer.. i can be a tad bit impatient.. hehe xD anyways ..

my question was if i'm going to drop track & field, will i have to notify them? or only if it's like an academic class?

iheartjg:

If you are going to drop track & field they will technically never find out since it's nto indicated on your transcripts. I would definitely keep it quiet unless UCI miraculously asks you for proof of track and field which has the likelihood of 0.001%. If anything, dropping track and field is not important, and it would not affect your admissions. You're fine =].

Here's a question for the general public from me, haha.

How can we get this forum stickied? It would be nice for people to see this and search through it before asking questions.

okay thanks so much . =D

& to your question.. sorry no idea. hehe

mj300: I was more thinking of just math - no applied or statistics. I might be interested in application mathematics once I know what it is : p

hey this Q&A is amazing. thanks for putting in time and effort.

i'm going to be majoring in poli sci and hopefully emphasize on int'l relations. do you know much about the program at UCI?

i also got into ucsb with the same major. do you know much about ucsb's academics or actually anything about the school in general?

i'm a pretty social person. i like to be around people. but not necessarily through huge parties (like at ucsb). what do you think of the social aspect... uci vs. ucsb?

how's the school spirit?

l1sacsays:

The political science program here is really strong. Although not many hear about it regularly since there's more emphasis on bio, the polisci program has its strength. In 2001, it was ranked number 29 by the US News and World Report (although we all know that doesn't matter). However, we do not have an int'l relations major here. I'm not too sure if we have a minor in int'l relations. We do have a international studies major though.

As for UCSB, my sources tell me every major there that's not engineering or physical sciences is a joke. In terms of social aspect UCSB beats UCI anyday but you can still have a good social life here at UCI. You get what you make out of college. The school spirit at UCI is very lacking though. UCSB has more school spirit.

Search threads by the original posted (OP) to get more info on the polisci there.

Hey Jason, do you know where the nearest catholic church is in Irvine? Also is there a shuttle that takes me somewhere close to it? I don't think I will have a car my freshmen year =((

since no one has answered my thread...

how is the film and media studies program?

The film and media studies program is good. What specifically do you want to know?

Mysticorion, there's actually a church on campus. There's a mass everyday at noon and on sunday at 10am, 12pm, 6pm.

it's right by middle earth

My Cal Grant has not been confirmed yet- I changed my school to UCI about three-four weeks ago, but on my "my aid" it is still unconfirmed. Do I have to contact the financial aid office ?

Is there any word on what kind of food will be in the new student center's food courts?

goober7011:

You can be sure that it will be better than anything that Mesa Commons, Pippins, and Brandywine has to offer. Over there we can use our zotbucks just as we can at Phoenix Grille and BC Taverns. There use to be a Carl's Jr inside with a good asain food place with an assortment of other places to eat which were all different and good to eat, so expect something good most likely.

Hi I have some questions~ I'm sorry if they have been asked before

what is the social life like if you plan on living in the dorms? What places outside the campus do people usually go to on weekends or when they have free time? Are there events/parties that occur on a daily basis?

what happens at freshman orientation in the summer? would you recommend attending the 1 or 3 day program?

when do incoming freshman start signing up for classes?

Thanks :)

from what i've heard there's pretty much no parties at all, but i think that the more people talk about there being no parties at all at uci the more it discourages them from happening ............

Jason123:

Sorry I’m not too sure about the financial aid. I didn’t have any to deal with. It should be confirmed overtime. Go ahead and call the financial aid office to get real anwers.

Goober7011:

There should be decent food places at the student center once it opens, but I have no idea what’s going to be included.

helloJeLLo:

I’m not going to answer your question on the social life. College is what you make of it. People go anywhere outside campus depending on the person. There’s always the Irvine Spectrum.

The freshman orientation will basically introduce you to UCI. It’s orientation, there’s not much I can say. However, the 3 day SPOP (student parent orientation program) is a fun filled 3 day program that will help you see how it will feel in the near future once you come to campus during the fall. I HIGHLY recommend you go to 3 day SPOP. I can’t spoil it for you. Just know it’s definitely worth it.

You will be notified as to when you will start signing up for classes.

maybe you missed it so ya.

"The film and media studies program is good. What specifically do you want to know?"

is it easy to get internships and such through the program? does it prepare you well for a potential job in the field?
