jas0n's Official UCI Q&A Thread

Are the housing applications or anything we do now online for housing on a first come, first serve basis, or can we turn them in a week or so and be totally fine?

Also, if I plan to stay on campus 4 days out of the week (theoretically, based on Freshman I know there), and go home the other 3 days, while occasionally eating out, what meal plan should I get?

if i want to dorm with a person i know from school..

what do i do?

Hi, I will be a freshman next fall and wondered about the theme halls. I am a biological science major but I was interested in the technology hall in MC. I like playing computer games in my spare time, but the tech hall may be full of computer majors and I might not fit in there. Do you think the general interest halls are better? Thanks.

WPM_Jon:

It is not on a first come first serve basis, but you MUST turn it in on the deadline. Get the smallest meal plan.

gaia87:

When you fill out the housing application, you will know what to do. Keep in contact with your prospective rommate.

MPeak:

Even if the hall may be full of computer majors, you will be able to fit in. You already know anyone who plays games can get along by playing games together :]. There are actually other majors in the hall that just like computers and games so they joined that hall. General interest can get wild because those who are indecisive (usually those who hate the themes which) will go there. It's a real mixture of people and it can get really loud and such. I'm sure you'll find a lot of gamers there though haha.

jason, does the date of orientation matter to signup for classes? I am going to the second to last orientation and I am fearful that I wont get the classes I want. BTW I am bio major. Thanks for reply bro.

NVM: I have read a few pages back and found the answer!!

ohs. i cant believe i didnt think of that ..
Thank you !!

Do you see people on campus playing Pokemon Diamond and Pearl? :D I wonder if there is a dorm or club for interests like that and other Anime or games. :D

Hey WPM_Jon:

Sorry but Pokemon is not common in the college world. Everyone knows about it, but the enthusiasts are rare. However, there is a huge community of anime watchers and game players of many sorts! I've watched a bunch of the best Anime series out there myself :].

jasOn..UCI might be a possibilty for my D, HOWEVER....I am very concerned by the antagonistic goings on by the Muslim Student Union and the Hillel Council on your campus. Is there open hostility going on as I've been reading in the student newspaper? I'm not about to send my D to a campus that may be close to igniting into a race/religion war. Comments?

OaksMom:

There is nothing violent on campus that occurs. There have been occasional head to head protests but never any violence. Those who protests are basically the only ones who care. UCI is actually known to be more indifferent on subjects like these moreso than other UCs. You really shouldn't worry about it.

do you know when the writing placement scores will be graded and updated on teh website

buddy:

It should be posted somewhere on the placement testing website.

Thanks for the opinion jaSon. I guess we'll at least include it on our visit list this summer.

I can't log on to my PI site! it say my log on credential is invalid! I already make sure it is right so what do I do now? do I really need the contract activation code?

are you sure you're sumbmitting the correct codes?

and you definitely need the code. the website is the bulk of the housing information.

thank!! I got in! :) I got one more question...what is the oldest hall in Mesa Court?

I think the oldest hall in Mesa Court are Arroyo, Loma, Lago, Bahia, Sierra, Cuesta, Cielo, Camino, Viento and Ciudad. They are also the smallest.

do any one know what kind of class and how many classes a biological science major has to take?
