I’m a serious jazz musician & I’ve done some international/national work. Yale just launched a Jazz Initiative, and their jazz ensemble is back from being suspended for a lack of players. They also hired 2 jazz professors, essentially creating a brand new program for 2016. I was wondering if this could possibly be a plus factor—though there’s really no such thing as a recruited musician.
I think it would be treated like any other extracurricular - the admissions office can’t have oversight into the intricacies of each sub department. There are just too many! I think sometimes people on this site overestimate the insight that adcoms have regarding diversity in some programs of study… there are just so many at Yale and most students change majors and extracurriculars after arriving on campus.
