I did not have a reception - I think my region doesn’t have very many nominees so just does interviews. I had an interview on Sunday and am now waiting to hear back.
my region is 39 people
@pinkzebra1234 hmmm… are we in the same region?
@habitualnerd Dallas/Fort Worth? Last night I heard we are down to 26 people !!
@pinkzebra1234 Oh, no, definitely not the same area, lol. I guess it’s coincidence- mine has 39 people too.
Did anyone else have an interview via Skype?
How many people roundabouts get eliminated before going into the second round?
Does anyone know what exactly is the process? D was called back for a second interview round this upcoming weekend. When is it considered semi finalist? What comes after second round of interviews? Who are the second round interviewers? What comes after second round interviews? Thanks! Born in ME, residence in MD, school in CT. All confusing to me. Many programs and awards seem to go based on where your parents live rather than where your school is. Are there any Jeff Scholars out there who can shed any light?
@purpendia How did it go? Will there be a second round of interviews in MD?
@dowzerw i was told the regions have to send the names of finalists to UVA Feb 13 so all the regional stuff should be done by then and then there’s just the finalist weekend in March
I’m in MD and I am having my first interview next Saturday. Have most people already had an interview?
@dowzerw Hey there, I am a Jeff scholar and how it works is that depending on region population, semifinalists (that’s everyone who gets an interview!) will have one or two rounds of interviews. After the second round interview, the finalists are picked to go down to the Finalist weekend in Charlottesville (late March). 120 finalists are selected to go down to this weekend, and every region can send a certain amount of people based on how big the region is. For example, I was from the West coast and my city only sent one finalist down to the weekend, but I know the Boston region got to send 3 of the people from the second-round interview down to the weekend. The region where you are interviewing is the region that would send you to the weekend. There were a fair amount of boarding school kids who lived in a different region than their hometown, but got nominated by the region where their high school was located. The second-round interviewers are volunteer committee members, usually UVA alums or past Jefferson scholars, who are trained to give interviews and select the Finalists, just like in the first interview. The first and second round interviews don’t differ substantially except for depth of questions since they know the people they’re interviewing better.
@pinkzebra1234 Thanks. It is hard to not quite know what is going on. A friend in MD has completed the MD process and says MD nominee and alternate have been chosen. Surprised processes are different from region to region. @rfbball Yes, most have already had their interviews. Surprised you are having first interview so late in the cycle. Good luck with it.
@mocktrialgirl Thanks for taking the time to help with info. Its an exciting time for my daughter though we realize how difficult it is to be selected. You must be pretty awesome! Congratulations. Hope you are having an awesome experience!
@dowzerw Of course! I have had an amazing experience with this program in my first year and I really want to give back by helping out people going through the process- I was pretty stressed out this time last year trying to figure out everything! Feel free to message me if you need any more information.
Does anyone know approx. how long after the regional interview we find out if we are moving on to the weekend?
@boston617781 did you have your interview today? Maybe I saw you The woman who was organizing it says that you’ll hear in a few weeks but I would imagine we would hear much sooner if UVA needs the list of finalists next week (I think that’s what someone said earlier).
@lro375 Where was your interview?
@grandscheme it was in Boston
@lro375 DD has hers tomorrow in CT
