I’m honestly surprised there’s no thread yet since the nominations are due pretty soon! But anyway, I was nominated by my school in MO. If anyone can give guidance on how the timeline looks like that would be great. Also, feel free to share any updates regarding the scholarship! Thanks
Hey! I just received an email informing me that I moved onto the next round, and my interview is on Feb 13. So nervous! Anyone else get a date?
Me too! Mine is jan 30th. Do you know how many people get interviews? I thought that the number was quite high, actually.
I am actually not sure, but from what I can tell from past threads it seems like the number is actually quite low. I bet the numbers are probably a bit different due to COVID and everything being virtual, though. Good luck on your interview!! I hope it goes well!
You too! Good luck - I am sure you’ll do great!
Hello! updating for future readers. I received an interview notification about a week ago. I had it today and it was unlike any interview I have ever had! You could tell they thoroughly read each and every application. They asked specifically how I exemplify the three main pillars of the Jefferson Scholars Foundation. This is the first round of interviews for my region and they will have the second round this week (so soon, I know!). I should know in the next day or two whether I have moved on. My interviewers were very kind and seemed genuinely interested in what they do. Will update soon!
Thank you so much for sharing! I hope that you move on to the next round! (:
Hi all! I was just notified that I did not advance to the next round. I’m disappointed but not surprised. I will be withdrawing my application to UVA because my attendance was contingent on obtaining this scholarship. Wishing you all the best!
Has anyone else still not been notified of their status regarding an interview?
No notification either way yet for my son.
My daughter got an email initially in December, and again this week indicating interviews will happen late January/early Feb.
@yagirl932 Sorry you didn’t advance! Thanks for your feedback re: the interview.
Do you remember any other questions they asked you? Were they hard questions?
here are the ones I remember. Note that some of these are ultra-specific to my extracurricular activities so I’d expect them to be a little different for each candidate.
- Do you have any weaknesses?
- What high school accomplishment are you most proud of that relates to the three pillars of the Jefferson scholarship?
- What are your thoughts on the state of the world today
-Because I mentioned having a ‘global worldview’ - What do you hope to gain from your college experience?
- Pick between funding these two nonprofits: an underdog that’s not well established or a
a large organization that has had many successes and Why?
-Because of my involvement with an organization that provides
grants to nonprofits - What do you do for fun in your free time?
- What is a change you’d like to make in your school?
- What word would your friends use to describe you?
Thanks for sharing all that info about the interview!
Thank you! Good luck
yagirl, I am sorry you didn’t advance but it sounds like you have other good plans in store! I have a question - how much time elapsed between your interview and the notification about advancing to the next round?
Thanks and good luck with your studies!
thanks! my interview was on Jan 13th in the evening. I got the notification the next day in the late afternoon- so less than 24 hours had passed
Thank you!
oh no! I’m withdrawing, too (my parents are apparently not fans of UVA). i’m sure that plenty of amazing opportunities are in front of us, though!
