Does anyone know when at large Jefferson Scholars nominations are notified? I was admitted EA Arts & Sciences with Echols but money may be important after regular decision results come out. I know my school can nominate someone but I don't think they ever did, so would that make me ineligible to be nominated?

According to the Jefferson Scholars website ([Jefferson Scholars Foundation | Selection Process](http://www.jeffersonscholars.org/undergraduate_program/selection-process/)), only certain applicant’s are reviewed as at-large nominees:

It doesn’t look like Arts & Sciences applicants are reviewed if they are within the geographic area that can nominate students.

If you live within a participating geographic location it seems that you are not considered for the at large candidate selections.

The website states the following regarding at large candidate selection:

http://www.jeffersonscholars.org/undergraduate_program/selection-process/

I suggest if you have any questions regarding the process you contact them directly at tel (434)243-9029 or mail to:jeffsch@virginia.edu

http://www.jeffersonscholars.org/contact-us/

Congratulations on your acceptance and best of luck to you! :)

edit: while I was copying and pasting links and quotes on my iPhone I managed to cross posts with patesq. I love my iPhone, but there’s no quick way to do it.

thought that as long as you were not from a nominating school and you applied early, even though you apply in the arts and sciences, that you could be considered for the jefferson…

hmmm, maybe that is why my dear daughter has not heard anything.

I don’t believe any at large nominees have heard yet. On January 16th, Dean J posted:
I’d think a ‘few weeks’ from the post date would be at least another week away.

dreamingofoxford - I called the Jefferson Scholars Foundation today and it seems that 'At-Large" candidate notification is still a few weeks away. In addition, I was told that your S or D would be eligible even if the were Arts and Sciences as long as their school was not an eligible secondary school.

The OP posted that his/her school could nominate:

That would seem to indicate that an at large nomination isn’t possible at this point unless the understanding about the school being able to nominate is incorrect.

patesq - I believe that your understanding is correct. If you attend a secondary school that is eligible to nominate students and they do not nominate you, then I do not think you would be eligible as an “At-Large” candidate.

My comment to dreamingofoxford is based on the assumption that D attends a school that is not eligible to nominate candidates.

thank you atlkaw6 for the information. will post in a couple weeks if she gets invited to compete for the jefferson merit scholarship. :)

Extremely disappointed my D was not selected to compete for this merit scholarship. She would appear to be a perfect match from the Jefferson website… perfect SAT in one sitting, leader, scholar, Cum Laude, AP Scholar with Distinction, one of the top female debaters in high school today, citizen, community service volunteer, presidential scholar candidate, etc.

After visiting UVA and seeing the beautiful campus and the new bldg. (Gibson/Nau) where she would be taking classes towards what appears to be a great program, PPL (Political Philosophy, Policy, and Law), she applied early action and was accepted. She was not from a nominating school but assumed she would be considered as an at large candidate by applying early.

Now, however, with no merit scholarship chance, UVA won’t be her destination.
Let me extend all good wishes to those candidates who were selected to compete for the jefferson and may you be fortunate to be offered the scholarship!
As for my D, we will be paying full tuition for college (Harvard), as we don’t qualify for financial aid.

Does this mean that at-large nominees have been notified?

My D called the jefferson scholar phone number last week and again today and yes, they told her both times that all the candidates have already been notified. :(
