Jew Getting Into Notre Dame?

Whats the deal? Easier, harder, impossible?

I'm having trouble finding any kind of admissions information period for it... in the past few years nobody has applied there from my 3000 person high school.

What schools is it comparable too admissions wise?

Thanks a ton!!!

Also, I've been looking for schools that weight SAT over GPA... does anyone have a list?

Thanks again

HaHaHa! I have no idea man, but as a fellow Jew from a very demographically jewish school i can say i totally relate. Like nobody from my school applies to G-Town or Notre and those who have have been shot out of the water (and we sent many kids to HYPSM)

My son who is Jewish had a Jewish alum interview him for Georgetown and when he was accepted a representative from Hillel called him to encourage him to matriculate. We thought that was great!

I don't think it would be harder, if anything Notre Dame could be looking for diversity, but remember what kind of setting you want to be in. Would you feel comfortable in a school that is mainly Catholic? Would you feel comfortable if there aren't many other Jews in the school? Do Jewish students at ND feel comfortable? I don't know the answers to these questions but I'm just saying you should weigh these questions before deciding to apply and definitely before deciding to attend. If you are just looking for schools that value high test scores, I'd look into Duke, WashU, and Cornell. Generally kids with above 1550/1600 on the SAT will get in and kids with 1500/1600 have slightly better than a 50-50 shot here. Good Luck!

ND has less than a 1% Jewish student population; that's the only figure I've ever seen advertised. That could mean, in fact, that it has ZERO Jews. Or not.

Georgetown, on the other hand, has about 11%, probably the highest for a Jesuit school in the US.

Bump. I wanna hear what others have to say.

Why the hell would you want to go to ND?

<<also, i've="" been="" looking="" for="" schools="" that="" weight="" sat="" over="" gpa...="" does="" anyone="" have="" a="" list?=""></also,>

No school weighs SAT scores over GPA. Grades and the level of challenge in your high school curriculum always trump test scores. Don't let anyone tell you differently.

Here is the link to Notre Dame's admissions page where they discuss the statistics of admitted students:
Admissions Statistics // Admissions // University of Notre Dame

One important thing to know about Notre Dame is that they do give preference to legacy applicants (applicants who have a family member who attended) and their percentage of legacy admits is somewhat larger than most universities. If you're Jewish, I don't suppose you're a legacy, so that could make it a little tougher for you in that regard. :)

Notre Dame does accept students of all faiths, but as others have suggested, do make sure you'd feel comfortable there, as the Catholic faith does permeate campus life somewhat. There are probably other Catholic institutions that might be a more comfortable fit for a practicing Jew.
