Okay, I was accepted to the BME program and I want to do premed as an undergrad. The problem is that I'm not that interested in engineering, after taking a couple of higher level calc classes at my state college, I've started to absolutely despise mathematics. So the question is, how much of the BME program focuses on engineering and how much actually focuses on premedical studies? Would it look better on a job application to say that I received a BME degree from JHU or a major in a premedical science at Stanford? Finally, what school do you believe would offer a better undergraduate experience?

Stanford..

stanford of course

Hopkins...

Considering that Stanford doesn't offer a major in "premedical science," you're probably better off with JHU. :p

well if you're doing premed... arent you planning to go to med school?

There's no such thing as "premed" anyway...

I think BME is a GREAT choice for pre-meds only cause
1) You are learning about design and stuff that will be implemented in the body... meaning you'll have to learn everything about how it works
2) there is an awesome focus on body systems available to you. go to the bme website for details
3) the classes are really kick @$$
4) when you think of jhu, you think med / people ask if you're going to the medical field
5) BME is really interesting and if you have a change of heart, you can go into design. i know cause i'm shadowing a biomed engineer and its awesome

But standford has grade inflation and average gpa, which is very important for medical school, is pretty high there. i heard its not unusual to get a 4.0 at stanford.

I think either way, YOU ARE SET FOR LIFE O MY GOD

Stanford :)

Hopkins is the best Medical School and the highest acceptance rate for applicants are from Hopkins. So maybe that's something...

premed = JHU

BME #2
Med School #1

why then, would u wanna go to stanford?

Maybe because it offers an environment that you prefer? Maybe because you like California?

Plenty of reasons to go to Stanford.

BME #2? what?

BME #1 Med school #2 Hospital #1

i heard most of the people at stanford is soooo happy and love it there.. i havent really heard that about hopkins.. hahaha

if you're serious about bme, then jhu. otherwise, i'd def choose stanford

oh right.. i meant Hopkins med school #2, second to Harvard med :)

also depends on specialization, i.e. medical practice or medical research.
harvard is better for the former, hopkins the latter

blahcollegesucks,
you've never even gone to either school and you're already making sweeping generalizations. oh yeah, everybody at stanford is soooo happy and people at hopkins are miserable. god i hope you don't choose hopkins. go to uva or somewhere else where you can spread that loser attitude.

yeah at first I admit I too was bias about the whole Hopkins image but that all changed when I visited and spoke to current students/faculty/parents there who showed me things I didn't know before

Stanford might be more laid back, but after all if you're serious into bme go to JHU. It might take more hard work but afterall college is about having opportunities in the future. Just don't go overboard. Many Hopkins student warn me that it isn't hard to have a life and yes there are people that study all day--beware of them when you come
