Hey guys! How much do you think an application essay matters? I mean if you write a killer essay you’re (most likely) guaranteed to get in JHU. But what if you write a generic one? Does that blow the chance? Thanks in advance ;)

What do you mean if you write a killer essay you are most likely guaranteed to get in?

I don’t think it would kill your chances! I think that as long as it wasn’t terrible or incoherent, you’ll still have the rest of your application to back you up. A generic essay at worst won’t break you

@citylightsagleam that is true! I assume that if you have not been contacted yet, there were no available alumni in your area. But it won’t negatively affect you though so don’t worry!

hey so i know that jhu says theres no need to rush scores, but i really want my updated sat score to get there in time. do you think its ok to rush them?

also, it says that for scores to be considered i was supposed to request them to be sent before the app deadline. does this go for november scores as well?

@silvertippedcities Thanks!

"What do you mean if you write a killer essay you are most likely guaranteed to get in?
" I heard (also read in a few results thread on cc) applicants can get in JHU by writing a killer essay even though they don’t have the best scores or ECs, while some well-rounded ones get rejected because their essays are not strong enough.

@silvertippedcities

Sorry, but I don’t have enough posts to send a PM of my own, so I’ll have to respond to yours here.

Premed, med school and residency is a lot of work and sleepless nights, and I’ve heard neurosurgery residencies are quite long, so good luck! What type of high school do you go to? I ask, because from what I’ve gathered, most people on here who talk about applying to these great universities seem to go to a large, competitive school, whereas mine is kind of the opposite. Does that matter?

Ooh I see @Vesper0723, I wasn’t aware JHU did that but I’m glad they are serious about the hollistic review. What do you think qualifies as a “killer essay”?

@ThatOneWeirdGuy No worries! I suppose I also go to a pretty large public high school that’s fairly competitive. Don’t worry about what kinds of high schools people who apply to great universities attend though, it doesn’t matter at all! There are just as many people applying there who attend small schools. Colleges will evaluate you based on your surroundings and the opportunities that were available to you rather than the size of the environment you were brought up in. They’re not going to compare the activities and classes of someone who goes to a small school with 100 people to someone else who attends a school with over 1000. It’s all in context. What matters is what you are doing at that school of yours with all the opprtunties that you are given. Hope that helps!

Did any of you get the e-mail with decision release instructions?

no, why? 10char

No not yet

Nope 10char

I think that should be coming in the last few days of November or so

Apparently those emails should be in our inboxes about a week before the decision date!

Has anybody gotten any emails on missing information? I was having problems with my SAT scores sending today and my counselor and I contacted the admissions office. They said they had everything but they still needed my SATs, but they never emailed me about missing them. Is it still too early to get anything like that?

I think as long as you reported your SAT scores on the common app, they’ll wait patiently for your score reports (for they only serve as proofs)

guys we’re getting our login emails next week!! :D

Ah I’m so excited!!

Guys i need help asap please. I recieved an email saying my application was missing the early decision agreement form. I remember signing it with my parents online and submitting it. I told my counselor to fax it over like two weeks ago and i called today only to find out that they still didnt get it. I emailed my counselor asking what happened and she said she FORGOT!! Where do i print out the form so i can fax it over myself? Please help me the decisions are made very soon and i need this paper!!

The counselor should have an electronic form on their Common App account. You’re going to have to probably tell your counselor to email you a pdf file of it, or just fax it to the university with her when you get the chance.

I don’t know if the university will accept it though, since the deadline I believe was November 20.
