As an ED applicant myself, I thought it would be a bit helpful to have a forum here for all of the early decision applicants who need help, info, advice, or simply want to vent the concerns and frustrations over the daunting application process.

What are all your stats like? The worst thing on my app is a 620 on the math section Taking the math 2 subject test so hopefully that will make up for it if I do well

I’m applying early decision because its my top school, but I think it’ll be tough for me to get it because I have a low(er) GPA. Everything on my application is, I feel, on par with Hopkins.

How did you illustrate your extracurricular activities? Through recommendation letters, essays, etc? A lot of people say that titles don’t matter, but it seems like there really is no room for description of extracurricular activities on the Common App.

I guess my biggest concern is if I just have a title and level of participation in an activity, admissions officers won’t take my word for it because there is no further elaboration of what I’ve done and accomplished.

As an international applicant, will JHU verify my activities on the Common App?

I think the general idea is that they typically take your word for most of the activities you list, since not everyone elaborates upon their activities in their essays (some essays have very specific prompts, or students may choose to address different/more important things). Sometimes, though, they check if they feel something doesn’t add up in your extracurriculars. Mostly, they don’t look for the number of EC’s or any detailed account of what it is that you did, how it helped you, etc. Generally, they wanna see that your EC’s match your passions (illustrated through essays and recs) and that you’ve been committed to your EC’s (more than a year of participation, leadership positions, etc.)

Your application should be flowing and everything should add up. When I applied, there were 3 main trends in my extracurricular: music, community service, and swimming. So for the 3 essays (common, supplemental essay, and 150 word essay) I talked about my passion for those 3 things. You can list 100 clubs that you’re in but if you don’t tie it together to let your passion show for them, you might as well have put none.

Hey guys i submitted my early decision application and sent my SAT scores but I’m left with 2 little problems. I still don’t have my october SAt score which will come in next week and one of my teachers still hasn’t finished my letter of recommendation. Even though the common application has my previous SAT score, will submitting the new one next week be ok? and will they see the new score instead? and My teacher said my letter will be done by the end of this weekend on naviance. Will that go directly with everything else that sent?

They’ll see the new score, though it will arrive after their deadline. That’s okay, however, as long as you request the scores to be sent before the deadline. :)

Does Johns Hopkins review test scores self-reported via common app? or review only official scores sent via College board? I sent my application last week, and I couldn’t add my new Oct SAT score which was released today.
Also do any of you know if self-reported AP scores get reviewed for admission purposes?
Thanks in advance :)
