InState
3.9 GPA 1360 SAT
7 APs, 1 DE(@JMU)
Also Accepted: PSU(summer), Michigan State, George Mason
Waiting: VTech, UVA and W&M…All mid-Feb

Daughter admitted. OOS 3.96 UW 4.26W

I got accepted applied OOS.
GPA UW: 3.93 W: 4.43
didn’t send scores
10 APs and a lot of honors
decent essays and extracurriculars
(Also did not get an email a friend told me to check and my acceptance letter also mentioned maintaining grades)

Congratulations to all admitted students! Lots of high stats! Beautiful campus…wishing you many happy years at JMU! Crossing our fingers for RD!

D is only bummed that her bff got in with much lower stats than hers…40 spots behind her in class rank…GPA is (obviously) lower…D is NHS, friend didn’t get invited…D has much better ECs, National recognition in a sport, lots of leadership, friend has none. They are only the 2nd and 3rd students to ever apply to JMU from their high school (according to Naviance). The 1st student was my S and he was admitted along with Honors College, but declined in 2019. D’s friend is going in without needing FA as OOS. I wonder if that is something they considered because nothing else makes sense right now when she compares her application to her friend’s.

Oh well, we’ll have to wait until April!

So cool. Seems like there’s a lot of OOS!

Daughter accepted. OOS
GPA: 3.85
ACT 27
Major Choice: Education
Can anyone from the area advise on whether or not JMU gives merit aid to OOS and if so what range it’s been? We won’t qualify for need base. Hoping maybe someone already had a son or daughter go there in past. We are from the midwest and I personally don’t know much about this school other than my daughter wants to see and possibly teach on the east coast. Thanks for any feedback

They are not known for giving much merit if at any at all. I think I saw a stat that only like 8% receive merit . There is one scholarship (Dingeldine) which gives u in-state tuition but you had to apply for it separately & is only for very very high stats. I think like only 20 kids get it.

I posted about this earlier in the thread, but if it helps now that decisions have come out I’ll say it again. My S received a $5K Presidential Recognition Award in 2019. Somewhere right before May 1, he received another $5K merit award (he did not ask for it, it just showed up). We are OOS. He was accepted into the Honors College. Hope that helps. I know that they are not known for lots of merit. He declined the offer and chose another school because of the money. Had we known they would come up with more money in the end, he may have kept it on his list and I told them that when they sent a survey looking for reasons why he chose not to attend.

Thanks! My son wants to make his decision but feel we will be waiting until May 1 . JMU is tied for first place with USC but USC was very generous with merit so far, I kind of want him to go to JMU though (8 hours closer to NJ)

Daughter accepted too and from NJ. 5 hours for us but worth it I think. Wondering if any merit will come. Doesn’t sound like much if any:(

Has he considered Miami of Ohio ? Great school and lovely campus. Lots of out of state kids. No extra essay prompts so easy few clicks on Common App for him to get done in a flash …

Thanks! This was helpful to know

Has anyone gotten new intel on when Honors College decisions will be released?

Son got email today that he is being considered for Madison scholarship and needs to write another essay. Anyone else? Thought he was done with essays:)

yes got an email regarding scholarships for anyone wondering…

My daughter received an email from someone asking her if she would be truly interested in attending JMU because she only has a few to hand out. We are OOS, so the highest scholarship (full in state), would bring tuition down to around our in state flagship, and other OOS public universities (UD, Temple, UMASS, waiting on others that offered merit buy not amounts yet). I think she will be honest and asked to be taken out of the running, because unfortunately, cost is a big consideration (she’s #4
, twin is #5). She did tour the campus and liked it, but the others are closer to home.
