I just tried calling Financial Aid as we can’t even see the Financial letter and hung up but they did reiterate only 3-5% of freshmen get any merit on their recording. My son applied knowing he may not get anything but if he did he would most likely attend (depending on what the # was). They are missing out some strong students but they seem to be operating the same way past few years reading old posts.
I have only seen one person hear about merit. Has anyone else heard? This waiting is so hard.
D from NJ is delighted to be attending JMU in the fall. It was always her first choice and though she was accepted at other bigger name and higher ranked schools, JMU was always her first choice and the perfect fit for her. Congratulations to all accepted, good luck to those who were deferred to RD.
I haven’t but only 3-5% of students get merit. Too bad because D is in to their honors college, too and was very excited about it.
I keep hoping merit money becomes available for your D. Fingers crossed.
I heard about a Madison Excellence Award last week. I would assume all of the recipients have been emailed and if those students don’t choose JMU the scholarships are given to their next choice.
Does the decision about the Dingledine scholarship come separately from the financial aid letter?
My understanding is that is does come separately and that some notifications went out last week. My daughter has not heard anything at this time. I guess they could invite more to participate. The Dingledine-Bluestone Scholarships website was just updated and it now states: “An update: We will be notifying all candidates of their decisions by late February and will be inviting finalists for an interview in early March. We appreciate your patience in this process.”
My son received an email last week stating he is a Dingledine Finalist and inviting him to a panel interview on March 1st.
OK thanks! Congrats to him
Anyone else receive any updates on Madison awards or Dingledine scholarship this week?
My daughter is now waiting for regular decision after being deferred ea.
I’m not sure it means anything, but today my son’s status changed from Deferred back to Complete. He was Deferred from EA and in now in the RD pool. Are RD decisions coming soon?
My son is a transfer student. His status changed to complete once they had everything that they needed to make a decision (high school transcript, college transcript, etc).
Question: My daughter was deferred EA. Not really worried about her admission on RD (although in this day and age, anything is possible), but here is my question. Her status had been showing deferred. Now today it now shows “complete”, which was the status prior to being deferred. Anyone else seeing this or know why? The only thing I can guess is maybe RD is coming soon and they are just preparing
Mine too… I should have read your comment prior to me posting the same thing
Well you were 100% right. Got the FAFSA and under merit big fat $$0000000’s
Guess she’ll have to stick it out here, lol!
After I saw these, I checked my son’s. Same thing–it said deferred at one point and now shows as complete. I wish it indicated decisions coming soon, but based on how late EA was, I would not be optimistic that they will be out in the next 30 days. I think it will still be late March. We were shocked at the deferral and now very concerned–based on so many deferrals and rejections–that this will be a denial, too. What a horrible process this has been!
May have to do with receipt of mid-year grades.
Finally got access to preliminary Financial award… big fat ZERO for Merit. He is going to wait a few more weeks to see if anything comes through but looks like he will be going to USC as they are much more generous with merit.
