Job market for Social Sciences

I've heard how the job market in academia is very poor, particularly for the liberal arts and humanities. Can anyone give me an idea of how the conditions are for social sciences, in fields like anthropology, psychology, economics, linguistics, and political science? If anyone has links to any resources on the academia job prospects by field it would also be greatly appreciated.

anthro and poli sci tend to be about as good and bad off as history. the job market within academia is not great unless you’re specializing in a relatively underserved subfield, so yet another american poli sci professor will have trouble, but someone studying environmental politics (for example) will stand out and have a better shot at departments that are trying to expand their studies beyond america/europe. outside of academia, there are good opportunities for employment as an anthropologist or political scientist (or historian), but the jobs may be slightly less conventional and you won’t get to study what you want to study and you won’t have time to further your personal research.

linguistics, economics, and psychology fare better, both within and outside of academia. in terms of links to stats, those can probably be found at the american _______ association of whatever field you’re looking into.
