I apologize if this is posted in the incorrect place, I wasn’t 100% sure where to post it :-?
I currently do speech, debate (yes, those are two separate, time consuming events), eco club, and hosa. Next year, I’d hopefully add NHS (if I got in) and Student Ambassadors. I’m considering joining FBLA, but I may not have time for it and I’m not sure how interested I am in joining. It’s also almost guaranteed I’ll be a school newspaper editor (as long as I keep up my work now) next year. I’m also starting volunteering this month at one of the hospitals. However, I’m (hoping) to get my CNA next year (junior year). They offer a class at a local college that gets me my CNA, high school credit, and college credit (I have to take it before school though). I’ve heard from people who have now graduated that it’s possible to get a job using your CNA (such as at a nursing home/healthcare facility) at 16, based on their experience. This is all a bit hypothetical, relying on the idea that I get my CNA and a job, but would it be better on an application to have a job or do extracurriculars? I won’t drop all of my extracurriculars, but I’d definitely have to quit some extracurriculars if I were to get a job. Given I’d like to go into premed, is it better to have a job that kind of “works towards” the medical field with a few extracurriculars, or have a lot of extracurriculars? Thank you in advance! :bz
This is a rare case where the job is better. First because it will be a job in the field, although not sure you can do any real CNA work before you are 18 because people who deal with patients have to sign legal paperwork and you can’t do that as a minor. But my son got his CNA this summer and we are still going to try too! Also, bulking up in extracurriculars is just not a good idea. Much better to do the few that you love which will show off your personality better.
I see what you mean. And I realize it comes across that I bulk up on ec’s, but I genuinely do enjoy doing all of those (not sure if I’d enjoy FBLA though). I’ve thought about dropping one so I have more time, but I like all of them, as time consuming as they may be.
