Hi, due to a physical circumstance that happened in 8th grade, one I can't get into without saying personal information about myself, I have 0 extracurricular activities (if you don't include things like babysitting for family members and hobbies). In my senior year now, I am desperately trying to think of things that I can do even with my impaired physical state so that it shows colleges I at least made an effort to be involved with the community. Sports and anything like that is out of the question. All of my local hospitals require that you be 18+ to volunteer. Therefore, I'm stuck with working at the library. 2 places offered me positions: 1 library paying, the other volunteer. I was thinking of taking both (each is only like 5 hours per week), but that would be stupid, wouldn't it? It has nothing to do with what career I hope to pursue or my interests (medicine). So what should I do? Which one, or both? Thnx!!!

What about any of the clubs that your school offers? Or getting involved with a local not for profit organization?

Volunteering at the library will never look bad.

i think any volunteer job looks good, if medicine is your interest, you could talk about how you have excelled in science at school and also, ur physical problems maybe inspired you, good luck!

You mentioned that you cannot volunteer in a hospital until you are 18. How about a vet clinic? Around here kids sometimes volunteer at vet offices at 15 and 16; the work is not directly related to "patient care", of course, but involves dog walking, etc.

I see absolutely nothing wrong with volunteering at a library. They are wonderful institutions, seriously underutilized by those who would benefit the most from what they have to offer.

Thanks for all the advice everyone!!! Those were some very helpful/encouraging comments!

I wish! I'm highly allergic to those little buggers so I might die upon walking in to the office (haha, but the sad part is that I'm not exaggerating)! I will try again at maybe a VA hospital where the volunteer requirements are not so strict!

P.S. Any more suggestions from anyone else would be appreciated too! Thank you!
