What appears better to admissions: a job or an internship? I think that an internship would because it shows interest in a certain field instead of just a job for spending cash. What do you think?

I don't think it really matters. A lot of people can't afford to do unpaid internships, after all, and Harvard wouldn't penalize them for that.

Job, if you're needy; internship, if you're not.

Modestmouse said exactly what was needed--- If you're low-income, which the top schools are always looking for, a good way to show it is by a job... In the college admissions forum, there's a thread about jobs that should be on one of the first few pages... Basically, if you have like a 20-40 hour a week job all year around to save for college and support your family, it's a plus. IF you're upper-middle class, like most on this forum, either or are pluses for sure.
