Job placement over law school rankings.

I have been doing some occupational interviews with lawyers and a few of them said that law school ranking doesn't mean much. They said it is more important to look for job placement ratios of schools. I just wanted to get your thoughts on this.

If you want to go into the top level firms you need a degree from a top level institution (or you need to be in the top 10% of your law class at a second tier school and in a good market). Beyond that, some non-T14 schools that are ranked lower than some other non-T14 can have better job placement because they are in a better market, have better connections or have a stronger alumni network. Generally speaking, where you received your law degree becomes less and less important after you practice law for a few years. I would not go as far as to say that a kid graduating from GWU (a great school by any measures) is going to have the same employment prospects as a kid graduating from Yale. Rankings do matter, although it varies by what field you wish to go into.
