Job right after graduation?

Passing the FE and getting one's EIT is a hurdle. You have to do it eventually to get licensure, and I believe you have to have it in order to be able to count qualifying experience (though I may be entirely wrong about that... Corbett knows more about licensure specifics than I do and can probably correct me if I'm wrong), but no company I've ever interviewed with has ever inquired as to whether I was an EIT.

This could be because it's on my resume, but seeing as how most of the time, they can't remember where I went to school after reading my resume, I doubt this is the reason.

It's something you should do, but I don't think it's a major barrier to getting a job.

(Plus, there's that guy I know who's a noteworthy structural engineer who, as a matter of principle, never got his PE, so I'd say something as unremarkable as an EIT cert wouldn't keep you from getting hired.)

It's not a requirement, but since it's not really that hard to pass the FE exam and get your scores acknowledged by the state you're practicing in, it's kind of ridiculous not to just get it taken care of.

My sister's boyfriend (civil) took about 6 or 7 years to graduate. Granted, he co-oped but he also failed many classes. I asked my sister what his GPA was and she said, "high enough to graduate". As most schools you have to attain at least a 2.0. With that being said, he was supposed to graduate Dec 07. The job offer he had waited until he finally graduated in May 08. I don't know what his starting salary is, but my sister just texted me today and said stick with engineering because after two months of work he is getting reassigned to DC (he is working in South Carolina) for a temporay project which could last 12 months. His company is giving him $97/day per diem (tax-free), $1100/month travel expenses, and $750/month for vehicle expenses. He went to an SEC university, not some super prestigious school. He works for a large company but nevertheless this goes to show that engineer graduates can find a job if they work hard to find one.

Thnx to those who responded. I feel a lot better lol.
