It could be they overenrolled this year. If you’re on the waitlist you shouldnt expect to get in or get your hopes up anyways. The percentages are abysmal
Judging from the minimal activity on the waitlists so far for the top 10 schools, it’s not looking great for JHU to go to the waitlist.
Does anyone how JHU/or other colleges like JHU handling not going to waitlist?? Is there a certain cut off date or would they leave you hanging without any report of their yield or anything? I know Harvard and Yale have already notified/given indication that they’re not going to the waitlist this year. Should we have heard from Hopkins if they’re going to the waitlist? JHU’s admissions office is as vague and unhelpful about the subject as any other college
Has anyone heard anything yet?
No news for us yet Still waiting.
The Facebook group of admitted students only has 897 members. I believe the freshman class size is much bigger. Perhaps people havn’t joined because it doesn’t seem like they making waitlist offers.
Last year 3,234 people were admitted, but only 1,313 enrolled. So there’s still hope!
Ogrelord, I contacted JHU last week about the same numbers/stats. The admissions office said that they always over enroll for classes because they know not everyone who is offered a spot will accept. The problem will be if more people accept their offers than what they have anticipated.
@setare98 @Ogrelord yea that’s why I was expected lot higher sign ups on Facebook. Not sure what is going on …
Guys - every college admits more than the number of spaces they have available. The percentage between the number matriculating and the number admitted is called the yield.
Looks like their freshman class size is about 1300 to 1400. Depending on how many enroll in the ED + RD, they will determine how many to take off the WL. Here are some stats from their CDS. Number of people admitted off the WL has varied from as low as 1 to as high as 112. Looks like this year they admitted 3117 (source https://hub.jhu.edu/2017/03/17/hopkins-class-of-2021-regular-decision/). If yield is same as last year (41%), my estimate would leave about 20 (pessimistic) to 170 (optimistic) seats for WL. However, if the yield went up 2% (like it has been going up for the last three cycles from 37% to 39% to 41%), number enrolled would be 1340+, leaving no seats to 60 (optimistic) seats for WL.
My guess is that because they have not taken anyone off the WL yet, this year’s yield is higher leaving little to no room for WL. Hope all of you have committed elsewhere. You will do great where you have committed. If JHU comes along - good, if not - great - see you JHU for grad!

anyone hear back yet?
@johonmilla no, not yet
Earlier this week we called Admissions to ask about the wait list and they indicated that they have gone to the wait list (they might have said last week) and would only be calling more wait list applicants if they didn’t receive sufficient acceptances from the 1st round. It must have been a very small number of calls since there has been no mention of it here, and it certainly doesn’t sound like there will be much more wait list activity.
Actually I called the JHU admissions yesterday as well. They indicated there will NOT be a wave of offers from the waiting list. I was told they have started to contact people on the waiting list one by one. Also they indicated that recruiting students from the waiting list will be an ongoing process since some students may change their mind about attending JHU later during summer.
Good news: there might be still some hope
Bad news: more waiting
The lack of people being accepted off the waitlist is very discouraging. I’m not liking my chances at all and I’m pretty sure we’re nearing the end of it as most colleges release the waitlist in June. It’s very curious why they’re not doing waves this year. It seems very similar to 2010 https://blogs.hopkins-interactive.com/blog/2010/05/additional-may-updates-wait-list-transfer-and-vacation/
Here’s my plea: if you got off the waitlist at hopkins, pls let us know!!
@oatchococookie no school is obligated to even go to the waitlist, let alone admit waves of people
It would be interesting to know how many people they’ve contacted so far/how many spots happen to be open. That being said, I don’t particularly expect much, if anything at all, to come from my spot on the JHU waitlist. Good luck to everyone, and maybe, God willing, we will one day meet as fellow students of JHU.
Does anyone have any updates on the status of the waitlist from admissions?
Or when they’ll release a majority of it?
