Hey all,

luckily, I got admitted and was named a John Jay Scholar. Now, if I check my financial aid application, the only item I see is the "John Jay Grant", so no information on other possible sources of financial aid or on my expected contributions. Does this mean that this John Jay Grant is my only source of aid?

Thanks a lot!

Were you notified of this online? When I go to the welcome website it says I was named a scholar, but I cannot find which program I was named a scholar to

They usually send a separate letter in the admissions package about being a scholar. If you got an online letter, read al of the pages to find the scholar information.

If you don’t receive any financial aid, you will not see any financial info for becoming a scholar. I understand you may get more grant money if you do receive an FA package.

Otherwise, you will have some benefits like paid summer research, being able to get free tickets to local events etc that are not quanitified for now.

Ohh that makes sense. I have not received my packet in the mail, so I’m sure it will explain everything in that! Thanks :)

@hoymevoy: Hey, I think we’ll get more details about parental contribution, etc later. Scholars get their work-study contribution replaced by the grant the first two years, so yes, the grant is our only source of financial aid this year.

@Collegecrazy1996: Go back to the decisions site, login, and SCROLL DOWN! There’s a second letter. I had missed it in the excitement as well. Good to see I wasn’t the only one. :p

Alright, thanks for your answers! So, just to make sure I get this right, because my ability to attend Columbia depends on this: If my John Jay grant is 25k$, am I expected to fully come up for the other ~40k$?

Thanks a lot!

I found it also! I missed it because I was so excited hahaha

You will get a letter with the award in the mail soon. If you want to know the details before it arrives and you can’t find it on-line, give the FA office a call and/or email them.

Yeah, you’ll have to cover the rest by paying directly or by taking a loan.
