i wanna be brown - you are right... thats why i didnt wanna generalize.. the private scholarships i was talking about were the ones that finaid as a criterion, so those who went to private schools who were well-off wouldnt be eligible for the ones i was talking about... whether the school deducts aid based on private scholarships, in the end the opp is still there..

wow, there's a lot of c/o 2009 unity going on here.

can you guys chill for a minute? god, it's not all that serious. if i wanna debate something seriously, im not gonna do it online in a forum. i dont know what makes you all think you know so much to tell each other who's wrong and who's right. lighten up

well scores certainly arent everything, i had an 1140 SAT SAT II's 580 writing, 770 spanish, 540 math 2c 3.879 unweighted gpa and i got in and just to clarify is not only the upper middle class who get stuck with the loans i have to pay for EVERYTHING (besides like 6 k in federal grants) and my mother doesnt even make half of what JH costs BUT iam still going i know its a lot of money but its worth it JH is GORGEOUS! By the way nice meeting you Kamini!:)

hey wow, congrats. it was nice meeting you too. looks like we are in the same boat, trade off good education for loans. im really surprised you didnt get any finaid from JHU... i assumed that if you have a low EFC then you are eligible for good amts of finaid (thats what the finaid brochures say, they had like a chart somewhere)... you should appeal

whoooo i might even have a decent chance rd... 1470 sats I + 660 writing I... 800/740/690 sat II's :)

i know i thought i was getting a lot of money too but something happened with my noncustodial parent form and it was late according to them so i didnt get anything, i should appeal but for some weird reason all of the financial aid reps are out this past week and i had to decide now and i decided to go, its worth it i suppose and i would have lots of time to pay my loans later on and besides iam waiting on the Gates Millennium Scholarship and if i get it, all my problems would be over i feel better now knowing that someone is on the same boat with me

the gates millenium scholarship people totally shafted me! haha.

you can appeal even if you accepted.

"hey staticsoliloquy, you're going to MIT, right?"
no i'm going to stanford. cardinal 09

"could you telll me to how many colleges you got good finaid packages that would've been financially feasible for you to go there? what about private need-based scholarships that you may have applied to?"
Even without financial aid, my scholarship covers full tuition. Have you heard of Gates Millennium Scholar? Yes I applied to many private organization scholarships.

"can you really tell me that is fair? my family cant really pay for JHU either, but i didnt get anything... im still going because i want the education, so you may say its my fault for choosing it.. but we shouldnt be punished for wanting to go to good schools that we cant pay for... whether you have $20K/year or $100K/year, if you cannot afford $45 K/year for college, the colleges/feds should take that into consideration."
I have to say it's all relative. Someone who makes 100K/yr have a higher capacity to pay for a 45K a yr college than someone who makes 20K/yr. Don't you see a flaw in your logic? The low-income family is already starving; they don't know when their next meal will be on the table; their kids don't have enough fare to take the bus. They don't have the luxury of a 100K/yr family. You can't compare the two. It's not black and white. Honestly, and I don't mean to offend you, you are speaking from a "middle-class" perspective. Have you ever slept in alleys? Have you ever dug through restaurant garbages because you don't have any food available? My family did in the past. You want to talk about fairness? Let's talk about the injustices of 3rd world countries.
