Johns Hopkins Class of 2019 RD Applicants!!

Hey, to the person requesting stats! I got rejected. I’ve been rejected and waitlisted from a slew of schools and it looks like I’ll be attending UNC Chapel Hill. All that are left are the Ivies (which are revealed on Tuesday). I’m pretty disappointed in myself but it’s okay! Waitlisted or rejected or not we are all lovely people :slight_smile: Here are my stats:

GPA: 4.0 unweighted, 5.1 weighted

  • I’ve never made anything less than an A (my school has a 7 point grading scale in which an A is a 93-100)

Standardized testing:

  • I did not take subjects (I know, tsk tsk but I couldn’t afford a tutor or the money to take subjects)

So Johns Hopkins gave me almost no aid (about $6,000 in loans and work study) and my family’s EFC was around $20,000. Anything I can do to get more aid? At this point there is practically no way that we will be able to afford it for $60,000 a year.

@gummyworms57‌ Dude, you’re awesome. Wow!

@khaleesi79‌ That’s a ridiculously low award for someone in your position. My son was accepted with an offer of a $3400 loan because we have a high EFC (I marvel at what they think we can pay, but that’s another story) – my son would get only merit aid from any school, and Hopkins has little of that. With your acceptance, the school should have sent you a worksheet indicating what they think you and your family can pay. It’s surprising that their calculation would be so far off the mark from your EFC. You can call the financial aid office and inquire.

waitlisted, but honestly thought i’d get rejected. I dunno if i will stay on the waitlist though…

Accepted with 62k per year.

@gummyworms57
Don’t understand why JHU didn’t accept you, your stats is very impressive and made me wonder what kind of people JHU wants?!
My s was on wait list, but I don’t think he’ll “wait” since there are a few top universities have accepted him with scholarships based on merit. It’s JHU’s loss they didn’t have you.

Did anybody receive Hodson scholarship?

I did @eth0up‌ !! Although I don’t really know what it is.

@TheOtterOne Thanks! Still rejected though :frowning:

@gummyworms57 the rejection, in no way, undermines your awesomeness

my daughter has 34 ACTs on 1st try, 710, 750 SAT2s, 4.5 gpa weighted, top 5 percent of her class, president of multiple clubs in school, 200 plus hours community service this year, raised 14,000$ last year for terminally ill children, this year organized a week long bullying awareness campaign with paid speakers and video public service announcements, 8 AP classes, no hooks, very good essays and recommendations. Has gotten accepted at Wellesley, Barnard, NYU, Johns Hopkins, plus a few “safety” schools, waitlisted at Vanderbilt (whose acceptance rate is supposedly down to 9 % this year) and rejected at Georgetown! It all seems so random! I am glad this is my last child going through this.

Hi all! For those admitted, has anyone gotten a travel grant/reimbursement for campus visit days? Just wondering because I noticed some other schools offer it…

Accepted with 50k with Bloomberg Scholarship. It’s really good, only about $13k for my family and I to pay. But I have an offer from a different school that is basically a full ride. Then again JHU is amazing in my major, BME, so maybe money should be a secondary thought…? Anyways, congrats to those accepted & best of luck to everyone!

@hopeamity did you have to apply for the Bloomberg Scholarship? Or is there a certain income you have to have to qualify?

question: If I’m waitlisted at JHU and someone from my school who is a very similar demographic to me is planning on turning down Hopkins’ offer, do you think I have a greater chance of getting off the waitlist?

If I’m in jeopardy of receiving a C in one of my AP classes, as well as a B in AP calculus and AP Psychology, am I at risk of being rescinded?

@Blossom112 I did not apply, it is a competitive need based scholarship. Sorry, I didn’t see this until now.

@SwaggyFrog No.

Does anyone know if they’re going to the wait list?
