Johns Hopkins Early Decision Candidate

GPA weighted: 4.6
Unweighted: 3.95
AP Classes: World History (Sophomore), US History/Langauge/Chem (Junior), Gov/Econ/Calculus/French/Biology/Literature (Senior). Scored 3 on chem, 5’s on language and us history. Heard at my college visit that they care more about transcript grades than test scores (all A’s in all AP classes).
SAT: math 750, reading 760, writing 720
SAT subject: US history 770, math level one 730. Should I take more???
Extracurriculars: involved in only student council and track but super committed to both (depth not breadth). Community service chairmen for three years planned tons of events raised lots of money did a great job with it, vice president of the state body that represents all student councils in the state. Planned the state convention and a regional convention with neighboring states executive committees. Led workshops at national conventions for student council. Pretty much did everything student council-y a person can do. Had a research internship with a college on lead poisoning in Indianapolis. Captain of track for two years and four year varsity member. Cheerleader for two years but probably won’t list it. Went on medical mission trip to Argentina but won’t talk about it much because I know that’s annoying to admissions officers.
Teacher recommendations will be stellar.

Should be a recruited athlete, not a legacy. Will apply ED, have visited and attended an information session so that shows my interest. Parents have had six years of college education between them, hoping it’s a small enough amount that it helps my case.
Plan to major in sociology, its underrepresented at the school so I think that should help.

Also feel free to recommend safety schools please! Be brutally honest everyone and give me any tips possible.

You have a pretty good shot but you never know with a school like JHU

Thank you for the feedback! Any advice or last minute tips before I submit my application?

You’ll be fine. Add state schools for safety.

Thanks for the feedback!

@ivydreams411 - when did you hear that JHU looks more at HS transcripts than test scores? We also did a campus tour in the spring and talked with various students, but didn’t get that same impression (although we never asked what % is given to each). I think you have a very solid chance at acceptance with your profile, especially applying ED! You’ve done a great job in HS – congrats!

ED will definitely help you so much! JHU ED acceptance rates are amazing and with your stats, you have a great chance. Just add some safeties and you’ll be fine!

Hi @wguidice thanks for the kind words! I asked an admissions rep during the sit down presentation part of the tour about their consideration of AP test scores and she told me that their priority was the grade on the transcript and said AP test scores were mainly used for placement. I was surprised to hear this answer as well! Perhaps I misunderstood.
