what do any of you engineering majors think about jhu's engineering program, specifically computer engineering?

Here is a great new web site which I think will provide you a ton of information about "What is Engineering at Johns Hopkins" and specifically the computer engineering program:

Also, if you want to connect with actual Johns Hopkins students, check out Hopkins Interactive (http://apply.jhu.edu/hi/), especially the Student Profiles section.
The engineering students are: Juinting, Liny, Tanmay, Toni-Marie

not to sound ungrateful or anything, but the first link didn't give me any insightful info, and the second link doesn't work.

In the spirit of constructive feedback, I have to agree with Qwertz. The web presence for engineering leaves something to be desired.

Correct second link: http://apply.jhu.edu/hi

You can use the Hopkins Forums to ask actual engineers at Hopkins direct questions: http://apply.jhu.edu/forums

As far as Engineering links, I find there to be a ton of information if you search for it:

Main Engineering page: http://www.wse.jhu.edu/
Department pages: http://engineering.jhu.edu/departments/
Undergraduate Advising information: http://engineering.jhu.edu/academicaffairs/2_undergrad/

Search through the Department pages and I think you will find ample information about the specific programs offered to Undergraduates, research opportunities, and faculty profiles.

anybody else?

another question: what percent of the undergrads are majoring in:

engineering (not including bio engineering)?
pre-med?

oh yeah, what percent of students are out of state?

Approximately 1/3 of the undergraduate population are engineers.

About 25% of students are "pre-med" -- that is across both the engineering and arts & sciences schools.

There is no in-state / out-of-state designation at Hopkins as it is a private institution. I'd say about 10% of students at Hopkins are from Maryland.

i just asked the out-of-state question to get a feel for the student population.

I would just like to confirm, one generally has a better chance of being accepted if they do not apply to the school of engineering, righ? Or does one not even apply to specific schools, and in this case would I still be better off indicating a major of interest outside the school of engineering?

That is completely false. Apply to whichever school, or major you are interested in.

Ditto to what YanksDolphin said. Your application is considered for admission to the University, not to a particular major or school*. In fact, if all your activities and interests in high school have been science and engineering related, I would hazard a guess that the admissions officers would be confused if they see that you’re applying as a Classics major. (Granted, there are probably science-nerds who want to study Classics, but they probably have a great essay explaining why)

*The only exception to this is the Biomedical Engineering program.

Applicants to Johns Hopkins University do not apply to a specific school nor a specific major. All applicants are applying to the full undergraduate university, and all applicants are held to the same standards. Upon enrollment, a student can choose the major or majors they are interested in pursuing across the Whiting School of Engineering and Krieger School of Arts and Sciences. The exception is BME.

Thanks to the three who answered my question.
