I need a new laptop before heading off to Hopkins in the fall (as a freshmen! Ahh! Still cannot believe that I'll be attending this crazy awesome institute!) but I don't know which one to purchase! I have an iPhone but I currently own a PC laptop. I'll be going premed but I'm majoring in English. Hopkins is definitely a math/science heavy campus, but I'm not actually going to be coding or anything, so should I go with a Mac?

You can go with whichever one you want. Pre-med and English don’t have any specific requirements for programs that you have to worry about mac vs. PC, so it’s up to you. Pick whichever one you are most comfortable with. Keep in mind, though, that it will probably be much cheaper to get a PC than a Mac with similar specs.

I’ve considered that, but are there any non-Mac devices that have both a larger screen and are lightweight? I don’t want to have to carry a heavy laptop if possible

Large screen and length weight are contradictory. How big of a screen are you looking for? If you don’t want to carry around something bulky, you probably would want to opt for a 13-14" over a 15" screen.
For lightweight pcs, though, I would look in general at ultra books. Lenovo has some nice ones. In particular, the Yoga seems to have gotten positive feedback, and it has the added bonus of being touchscreen and rotate-able. I haven’t used one myself, but it seems worth taking a look at. (Having a touch screen to use to annotate bio-type class slides is really useful. I do that on my iPad, but a convertible laptop could be a good choice.)

Idk how this applies to the whole student body, but from the group that I participated with at Johns Hopkins, a majority of them used Macs. To be honest, you should really get the one that fits you best!

Fantastic advice- thanks!(:
