Well I'm going to be a Sophomore this year and am really looking forward to joining the debate team. Over the years a multitude of teachers have told me I need to join debate but freshman year I was beyond lazy and blew it off but Soph year Im ready to join it and wreck haha. Any tips for an up and comer?

Listen to those who have done it for years, as well as they coach. Watch some rounds before you go into a “real round.” Also, work on your cases (you’ll learn more about these) every second you can. Debate is an activity where how far you go and how well you do is related to your effort. Yes, some people have talent, but that can’t take them far. If you want to be a state finalist, you will have to give it.more time and effort than everybody else.

I’m gonna be a sophomore too and I’ve been thinking about doing debate. Idk how it’ll work though since I play basketball and golf. From your past posts I know you play football. How are you gonna find time for it? Is it afterschool at your school too.

Just enjoy it, debating is amazing! Also it’s really worth putting the time and effort in, because it is one class that can make a huge difference to you in the future; having the confidence to just stand up and speak well will take you far :)

^I realise that that makes no sense
