Journalism Program

Are there any current students of the journalism program who can comment? I've heard a lot of good things, but I've also heard that overall its not as strong a program as some other school's I've applied to (Chapel Hill, Northwestern). I know the resources are amazing, but I'd like to get the opinion of a student since it looks like that's where I'm spending the next four years.

I'm interested in the journalism program, too, and I'd like to learn more about the school from a current student's perspective, as well.

Giving this a bump; interested in journalism, as well...

I applied to their journalism program too as a transfer. Haven't heard yet though... I know Northwestern is higher ranked (as are a few east coast schools) but USC has the best program on the west coast I think!

Northwestern (Medill) by far is the best in the country!!! My uncle is a Medill grad and he said it was three days after graduation when he got his first job offer. Then he said, they came in like crazy. He had 12 job offers before a month out of school. Oh.. he was a broadcast journalism major. He currently works in Phildelphia as a news anchor for the ABC affiliate down their. I dont know exactly wat he is making but I would assume around $400,000!!??!!?? I am not 100% sure but all I know is that he is VERY well off. I mean they go on NICE vacations all the time ect!!!! I dont know to much about USC but Northwestern is the best for at least people living on the east coast and in the midwest...if you live on the west coast and want to be not close but closer than Northwestern to home.......go to USC... Northwestern all the way for me!!!!!!!!!! :)

I am a freshman majoring in broadcast journalism and I would be happy to take your questions.

I have been satisfied with the Annenberg school thus far. The faculty members are great, and the school often functions as its own college within a larger university. It has major-specific advisors, dedicated study abroad programs, and a dedicated career office. The connections to the “Trojan Family” as well as the Los Angeles media scene are immediately apparent.

However, I would have to agree that Northwestern has the top undergraduate journalism program. If you want to change majors, you are still at one of the best schools in the nation. The students around you will also be of a very high caliber. So far I have been underwhelmed by the general USC freshman class, but that will probably change as we move into upper division courses.

Still, USC Annenberg is the best on the west coast and is an excellent choice if you want to stay closer to home or just enjoy the experience of southern California.
