I can honestly say that JSA is the best thing that ever happened to me (yes, it sounds dramatic, I know. But it’s true). I went to Yale, which is no longer available, last year and I met so many great people and had so many great experiences that I talked about it non-stop for months. I met a great guy there who is now going to Harvard. My best friend there os now going to NYU. There are so many smart, funny, cool people that I will never forget. The food wasn’t so good, and I’m a vegeatian too and I still managed though. The professors are very nice and you do have a good amount of freedom.

As for payment and scholarships, yes they do give out scholarships for merit and income. Last year I got $2,000 worth of scholarships and this year I got $1,000. And you don’t have to be “poor” to get income scholarships. Oh yeah, and this year I’m going to Stanford.

well if anybody is going to the JSA summer institute at stanford, ill be going!

I just finished the ASU Institute Symposium and i was accepted to georgetown Session II.

Well look at it this way, Princeton is over rated so if you were looking to go and you need ALOT of financial Aid then that probably wouldnt work out.

Lol I wanted to go to Stanford, but Princeton’s a drive away compared to Stanford’s extra cost of plane tickets -_-

I got into the JSA Institute on Leadership and Nat’l Security @ Princeton. Only problem is, I gotta convince my parents to let me go. I really don’t see what the big deal is, I live in South Jersey and I’ve been away to a college for that long before (PennMC).

Well it’s only 3 weeks away until (non-APUSH) Princeton program begins. Lookin forward to it already!

BUMP.
That’s it? No one else on CC is going?

im going to princeton im taking speech and political comm.

Nice! Way to see you there!

I’m going to Princeton too.

It’ll be good…hopefully. I hope it’s not a nerd-fest (for lack of better words), but I also hope it isn’t the typical pay $4,000; watch rich kids get intoxicated 'till a near-death state (like the Columbia Summer Program, or whatever it’s called).

Oh, and I’m doing the APUSG&P program (cool acronym, huh?)

Lol. That’s exactly what I’m hoping for. Something intelligent and worthwhile, but not boring as hell. I took AP Macroeconomics.

Great minds think alike? Haha

Looking at your posts, you seem pretty heavy into politics and economics. That’s a good thing. It makes me hopeful for all the other JSA Princetonians to be the same. If anything, I expect I’ll be given enough content/taught enough stuff to do well on the AP exam come May.

BTW, are you part of JSA in your high school? 'Cause my school doesn’t have JSA, and I hope I’m not lost because I’m not familiar with the program.

Nope, but that’s one of the main reasons why I’m going. If I make contacts and stuff with other JSA members, I maybe able to start up a JSA chapter at my school.

And yeah, I am into that stuff. I’ve had several teachers ask me why I’m not like a normal teenager =)

I don’t think you need to make contacts and network per se, but it would definitely help.

Also, since your interest spans past U.S. law and legislation, M.U.N. would seem to suit your interested more. It does for me, at least.

I applied to the Gerogetown Session II Summer School a few weeks ago, but I haven’t heard from JSA AT ALL!!! It’s actually really ****ing me off - I really wanted to go :(

I wrote pis*ing me off and it blocked it…weird…

Did you try calling them back? I’d think they’re in the process of organizing upcoming stuff, but try given them a call.

That’s weird, cause they were pushing me to apply even after the deadline (cause the counselors at my school are slow, but they at least got it done), and they accepted me after submitting the application late.

But I’m going to the Princeton program, which isn’t selective-- perhaps that’s why.

Or just cause they didn’t email you yet?

LOL. You’re telling me. I got accepted before sending in my teacher rec in. And my transcript was the latest version of my current year’s report card.
But nevertheless, their applicant pool is self-selective. You always hear about people who attended there got into Princeton, and other ivies, but that’s because the students themselves were that great- not b/c of the program itself. But still, surviving it with a good grade from what I’ve read, sounds like an accomplishment.

They didn’t even read my essays until around the week of the deadline, and I submitted them quite early. I honestly didn’t mind (although I got pretty ticked with the counseling office at my school), because at the end of it all, I’m still going.

And you’re right. From what I gather, it’s pretty self-selective, most likely due to the fact that the courses ONLY revolve around politics/government (and many of those being AP courses). It leads to a pretty studious group of students, as opposed to a summer program with slack classes, subjects that are rather pointless, and students that need an outlet to get as intoxicated as they can.
