June 2006 - World History

I disagree... I couldn't find many things that said Gorby wanted to Westernize Russia, but I found many that said Peter wanted reform, as did Gorby.

Though, you could probably make arguments for both, so it's a bad question.

was there an answer choice that referred to "reforms"
i can't believe i didn't see that
i think i put westernization

I remember there being a "liberal reforms" answer, but I might be thinking of something else.

Choice A was 'reforms'...but I think it said something like liberal reforms, not western reforms--otherwise that would have been the clear answer...

I seem to remember another choice was western technology. I didn't agree with the technology bit, but the western part seemed right...

I think, in the end, I went with A) liberal reforms

? Anyone know the answer ?

its liberal reforms
we all know peter reformed
gorbachev = perestroika or something
can't believe i didn't see that -_-

Has the college board published any scales newer than the one used in the blue book? I felt this test was way harder than the one in the book, so the scale should be more generous.

There is no definitive scale for anything. It's all statistic-driven.

Gorbachev... liberal reform... well, in terms of Communist Russia, I guess it was liberal. He allowed foreigners to invest. But at the same time he had this policy of befriending the West...

Problem is, Peter was no liberal; he just forced the West on the nobles. He did nothing but enforce enslavement for all else. He even pulled a Tokugawa-style nobility visitation program with Sankt-Peterburg during his reign.

Damn it, I have at least 12 wrong; 13 or 14 is a better estimate. I really hope that curve just posted is the right one, because otherwise I am sooooo screwed. :(:(:(`

who thinks/knows they got 800?
who thinks they got below 700? (right here y'allll...)

I definitely think Gorbachev could be considered a "westernizer".

He called for democratization... a Western idea.

ah i see... hopefully it was western... cu thats what i put lol

I believe the choice that contained 'western' said something about 'western technology'. So the answer should be 'liberal reforms', because in historical context, liberal can refer to any NEW change, completely different from a traditional system. So, both Peter and Gorbachev fit, right?

I think someone earlier commented that these humanities tests are really subjective, and seem to give you two right answers and have you judge the "more correct" one. I agree - it's really not nice.

Yeah, this ****es me off. I can't even remember which answer I picked because both answers seemed right then and still seem right now. :(

oo i soo got below 700
eep

Peter did little that resembled liberal reforms. And no, liberal is not synonymus with simple change. It specifically refers to LIBERAL ideals. But both leaders clearly wanted western technology. Peter needed western tech for his navy and army and Gorbachev wanted more western consumer technology.

Does anyone remember any other questions?

13 wrong out of those.

yeah Ray192 is right about that i missed around 3-5 so far which is really really good, only got a 600ish on a practice test since i didnt prep and never took a world history course.. who knows i couldve bombed the questions we didnt cover yet though
