Conclusion: math, prepare to meet your maker this summer because I WILL score ABOVE 700 on the OCTOBER MATH
SO HELP ME GOD
Summons divine intervention

My daughter (rising senior) took the SAT for the first time June 5 with no real prep. Her scores were less than hoped for but we knew before she took the test that her math skills are “behind” and she’ll use the summer to bring them up to her potential. Past that, I wonder to what you attribute your increases of 200 points or more. Our plan is for her to take weekly practice tests (placing study emphasis on what she misses each time) between now and the Oct 9 test. Is this a good plan? Do you recommend she do anything else? Is it really possible for her to see an increase of this range with dedicated study? Thanks in advance for your help/insight!

^It’s definitely possible for her score to increase with dedicated studying. I improved from a 165 Sophomore PSAT to a 205 Junior Year PSAT, with just a couple weeks of prep in august. I think the biggest thing to do in prepping is to review the answers you get wrong after you take a practice test, and understand why you got those answers wrong, so you don’t repeat the same mistakes.

Yes, its definitely possible, witness my 175 PSAT to my 2270 SAT. Just take practice tests (CB’s) unless she has some glarring weakness. Oh and you should also check out a couple of threads here on CC: “How to effectively attack the critical reading section” and “How to write a 12 essay in 10 days”

^^^ Don’t forcefeed practice tests to her unless she’s really, really interested. After the taking the SAT once, the most important thing IMO is that one gets the feel of the test, and can subconsciously adjust on the next test.

But then again you don’t have to agree with me, I’m just some random guy from the internet.

800 on the Mathematics Level 2 test!!! Soooo much better than I thought I would do. I left like 3 blank. And a 760 on Physics to go with it. So happy :D

LOL a 100 point improvement by doing absolutely nothing!!! YAY!! (and its not like a learned anything i didnt know, i havent learned anything like the SAT material in like 3 years)

June '10
760CR 800M 740W (I can’t seem to find where the essay score is this time) - 2300

hehe maybe if i take it again ill get a 2400
but seriously thank goodness it is over! no more SATs ever again
Unfortunately i still have to pay collegeboard for APs next year (thats gonna be a hefty check >600$

I need help here. How can I increase like u guys?
I only have one more chance and give me some advise.
And what universities will accept me?(I want to major electronical engineering.)

Fledgling, it was my first time taking it but that’s the same score I got on the PSAT (68). I did study and I’m pretty sure I got all of the vocabulary right but the passage reading is the thing that killed me. I’m just not sure if I can improve on CR. So if I were not to retake, do you think my other sections will suffice for those colleges? If not, do you have any advice on what I should do to prepare for CR for the fall?

^ Well, this time around I knew of a much better reading strategy for CR that helped me increase my score from a 700 to a 760 although technically this time’s CR would be classified as “harder”. I’ll PM you and see what you think of it :)
