***June 2014 SAT (US ONLY)***

Does anyone remember what the last no error one was?

one was about galaxies, the other was about William Morris, what was the last one?

Also, can anyone remember the baboons question for identification of errors?

I hate myself, I couldn’t answer 4 math questions that I left blank and I think I got 1 or 2 math questions wrong. I really want a 700 on the math section.

For reading I think I did pretty good, probably 600+.

I don’t know about the writing though. I skipped like 6 questions. And I don’t know about my essay. My essay topic was if a persons character makes a person successful or what not.

I used HUCK FINN, THE CHATCHER IN THE RYE, AND LINCOLN.

are those good examples, because I talked about how huck and liclon grew up poor and how Holden had school problems.

Can I get a 10+ on the essay???

Curve predictions?

@APmaster007 it’s hard to predict essay scores cuz I know I can write well, as I got a 5 on ap lang and lit, and I got an 8 on my essay last time… and I explained my points thoroughly… It depends what grader u have in a way… If u took a strong stance on the question, either a yes or no to the prompt, you should be fine as long as you stood behind ur points and had strong diction

@wchristen89
Why do you guys worry about curves so much. Curves don’t make big differences, instead of getting lets say 650, you get 640. its not that big, I never seen a extreme curve before its usually plus or minus 10.

In my sat prep book tho there is a chart with a huge range so it seems like curves do matter. For example, it says u could get a 61 on reading and get anywhere from 670-770

@carlynerdalert‌ That 1700 one was experimental I didn’t have it.

I wrote 1.5 pages for my essay and used two examples from one piece of literature. I tied it into my thesis greatly tho so I’m hoping I get more than an 8 this time

guys - for the essay you’re pretty much guaranteed a 10+ score if you fill up the 2 pages perfectly and use 3 full examples. of course you CAN get a higher score with a shorter essay and/or more developed, but less examples, but with the 2 pages/3 ex you can usually write bs and still do well.

What if you have lopsided paragraphs? I had like half a page on one body paragraph and only 4ish lines for my second one (I was running out of room!). I feel like I did a decent analysis for the second example but will I get penalized for not giving equal treatment to both my examples?? I also only ended up writing two body paragraphs, again, not enough room to squeeze in any more.

Did anybody use “Of Mice and Men” in the essays?

@loves2ride it’s possible to write just 1 intro paragraph and 2 body paragraphs and get a 10+ (without a conclusion paragraph).

At least that is what my tutor (he got a 1600/1600 on the old SAT so he has a lot of credibility) told me, he believes as long as your 3 initial paragraphs have good content, you dont really need a concluding paragraph to get a 9 or above.

@Jarjarbinks23 I did. I actually saw it used as an example in one of the “How to write an essay” threads the night before.

I also used psychology and personality disorders for my second body. I don’t know how I feel about that one, though, since I didn’t have any specific example. :(

Based off of the Google doc, I failed miserably :(

@capitalamerica‌ I should’ve disagreed with the prompt, my essay was so weak.
-I could’ve used psychology. Attractive people are more successful so having character means schmoop if you’re good looking.
-or steve jobs. He was a pretty mean person but he climbed to the top nonetheless
-or elsa from frozen. Clearly she was a bright, pure, effusive young girl who had her childhood violently avulsed from her for no fault of her own, leading her to sever herself from society and turn into into a frosty and discountenanced echo of her past self
why am i thinking of this NOW?!!!

@humbugs‌ Are we talking about the same prompt here, where it’s lying vs telling the truth? ._.

@capitalamerica‌ woops, thought you had the character prompt

@presque Can I get a good score 10+ if it has 2 examples but used the full 2 pages?

@SilverSmart Both times I took the SAT I used (only) two examples and got essay scores of 11 and 12. For me, using 3 examples wouldn’t work as I would struggle to say anything meaningful about three topics in 25 minutes and 2 pages.

@SilverSmart‌ of course! I’m just saying with 3 examples it’s less about the quality of the actual writing because they see that you have the ability to fit that much knowledge into a really small span of time and grade you based on that. With two examples it just becomes more about your actual essay and how well you’ve developed your different points in conjunction with your thesis etc. And a good 2 pages always helps.
