I am going to do scheduling soon and i wnted to know about what the CC community thinks about these classes for my schedule.
JUNIOR YEAR
AP English Lang
AP Physics 1
AP Economics (my school combines Macro and Micro)
AP Government or AP Psychology (still haven’t decided)
AP US History
H Trig/Analysis
H Spanish 5
SENIOR YEAR
AP European History
AP Government or AP Psychology (depends on what i take junior year)
AP Spanish Language
AP Calculus BC
AP English Lit
AP Environmental Science
H International Business and Marketing
I want to major in International Relations and Affairs or a major similar to that one. So how hard would these schedules be? And i am a hard working person and am currently taking AP World History so i will have experience taking an AP before next year.
Do you think that you will be prepared to take 5 APs next year and 6 APs your senior year? APs are time-consuming and require much effort and dedication. Think about the workload for your AP World class and imagine five times the workload. It’s easy to schedule; actually taking the class is the hard part. If you feel like you are up to the challenge, however, go for it.
Also, AP Government is a whole lot easier if you complete AP US History. Government itself has a basis in US History; I took APUSH during my sophomore year and self-studied for AP Gov during my junior year (the week before the test in fact). I got a 5 on both tests, so it’s doable.
Hopefully this helps!
That is a lot of AP’s! Do you have enough time? Your schedule looks like a load of stress to me, but if you feel like you can honestly do well (C or higher) in all of those classes, more power to you.
What have you been taking so far?
Ask your current teacher whether they think you can handle their class and have a B or higher - that’s the standard for AP classes (no one’s impressed with a C in an AP class.)
I would cut Ap Gov/Ap psych from junior year, and take AP Gov senior year but cut AP Lit and APES.
APES and AP Psych should only be taken if you’re really interested in the subject (they’re great but they don’t “add” anything to your application as far as adcoms go). I’d keep APES senior year so that you have a Science.
If your school offers Honors English or Senior Seminars, I’d recommend it instead of AP Lit, because it requires one to be a great reader and is very time-consuming: great if you love to read, less great if you don’t. (I’m along the former but I realize few people are). Don’t take the class just for show.
-AP Physics 1 is offered at my school as Honors Physics which feels like another math class where you are able to apply equations to real life.
-AP Government is easier than I thought it would be. As you go deeper into it, the concepts seem really familiar to earlier ones. Just be able to dedicate textbook reading time.(or quizlet reading time hehe)
-I’ve heard AP Psych and Environment are on the easier side
*Since you want to major in International Relations and Affairs, see if there are any other government classes at your school and just ditch or self study Psych. My school has AP Comparative Govt. which I feel like you would be interested in.
